N7252xx is some time in 1980.

AYU7184 is 1988.

The SCSW has an appendix with serial number ranges, but S&W counts the shipping date as the "birthday". Sometimes a gun might sit on a shelf for months before being shipped, sometimes they go out really quick, so the manufacture date might be significantly earlier (months to a year or more, rarely). Plus, serial numbers are not sequential with manufacture date in many cases.

If you think that you'll be acquiring more S&Ws, you might be wise to invest in the "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 4th Ed.", by Supica and Nahas. Most of us here on the Forum consider this "the Bible"...it may not be perfect but it has tons of information. It's a great investment for under $50, and you can find them used for less. If I'm not mistaken, the "5th Edition" is scheduled to be released in Sept/Oct 2024. Every edition builds on the previous editions and fills in missing information obtained from research and inputs from thousands of Forum members.
