Grips for model 12-1?
What grips are compatible with the model 12-1? I have one with the stock wood but would like to add something that may be better for carry.

You’ll just have to check with some of the popular grip makers like Hogue and and ask if they make grips to fit the model 12. I know they make some nice carry styles.

Are you asking what frame the model 12 is so that you know which stocks will work?
It is a K frame gun
Until we see pics, it may be a square or round butt

Due to different frame dimensions between the Model 10 and Model 12-1 only model 12 stocks will fit properly. After market stocks like rubber Pachmayrs, etc. can be used on the Model 12s before Model 12-4. Frame dimensions were changed for the Model 12-4 to be the same as the steel frame K-Frame models.
N.C. Ordnance makes reproductions of the earlier K-Frame round butt stocks that did not have the "horn" of the Magna stocks are available.
There is one option and that is to modify K-Frame Magna stocks by sanding .040" off the back of the major portion of the stock. This usually works well. Simply lay a sheet of 220 or 320 grit sandpaper on a hard flat surface and sand the stocks by rubbing them on the sandpaper until the correct amount of material has been removed, usually only takes fewer than 10 strokes each way. Be sure to sand the stocks front to back, not top to bottom! Use firm pressure.
An old grip company, Jay Scott, used to make Model 12 stocks, you might find some on E-Bay. Or you can post a Want-to-buy ad on this forum. Be sure to specify Model 12, 12-1, 12-2, or 12-3 stocks are needed.

This is not correct! The Model 12 through 12-3 were built on the KA(Aluminum) Frame that has different dimensions than the steel K-Frame.

Welcome to posting (18 1/2 years after joining)!
Your model 12 currently has standard K frame Magna stocks. If you look at the gap at the top of both panels in photo 2, that is where the thinner correct stocks should fit flush to the grip frame.
As noted above, many larger universal fit stocks will fit it. Target style stocks will hide the visible gap.

Thanks. Haven’t posted because I haven’t owned a S&W since 2008 and didn’t need to.
