My favorite is whichever one is at the range with me that day...

If I ever have to choose only one to keep, it will be a tough day...

A K-chuk!! That will sting. And yes Truckman, one must always have the 22LR cylinder for the M-53. You can cut down on the erosion while still having fun.

I go thru cycles where I have a few, then down to one, then a few and then one again. The one that never leaves is my 34-1 2". I just cannot get rid of it.

My 4" round butt 617, built as an understudy to my 4" round butt 686 back in the 80s.

A close second is a 4" Model 18 with Spegel Boot grips!

My favorite ( might just be my most frequently shot handgun of all) is my 2” square butt nickel model 34-1.
I always preferred the look of square butts , they look more classic.
I had been searching for a 2” square but for about 5 years, then stumbled into the one I have. Was really wanting blue, but after not even seeing one for sale ( at a not insane price anyway) for so long I bit on the nickel.
It has possibly the best trigger I have ever felt on a J frame, and no misfire issues. It also doesn’t suffer from overly tight chambers and trouble extracting. Surprisingly accurate ( hitting pepper poppers set up at my club at 100 yards is so routine it almost gets boring)
When my schedule permits, I shoot a steel challenge match and often show up with the 2” 34-1 as my gun for the match. I never finish last ( typically middle of the pack for the iron sight pistol class) and rarely need to use the 6th round in the cylinder because I missed.

Beautiful guns!!!

Like several of you above, I too have an ongoing love affair with the K-22... Here are some of my favorites...

... but if I had to pick only a few, these engraved ones would quickly rise to the top:

... or maybe this King Super Target Outdoorsman...

Great thread with wonderful photos. Especially like that Churchill gun !!
Can’t imagine not having and shooting 22s, at least one goes to the range every time I do, sometimes nothing but 22s. Here are a few of mine.

Sure Richard, they were made from a botched set of J RB grips that had been pushed aside. I have the factory originals but they are very hard to get any kind of useful grip on.

Here is one that I shoot a lot and it’s more accurate than me now. I mounted that Leopold 4X—EER in 1979 for Small Bore Silhouette Matches.

Wow they are great!

All of my wraparound Roper grips need to have a relief in order to cock them in single action. Yours do not need one. Is it because of the slim design around your hand webbing?

It’s definitely my 1953 CM. It’s finish challenged but I love her. I’ve fitted an extra cylinder in 22mag and had the grips repaired. It’s a great shooter.

I could not agree more. The factory grips on those Bekearts do not provide much of a grip at all. Those custom Ropers look great and appear to be super functional!!! Well Done!!!

Not my favorite but look at those grips- a model 17 with a pair of Keith Brown grips I bought at the last Symposium- he had a whole table of them although there were fewer pairs every time I walked by…

My favorite shooter, this early post-war K-22 belonged to my father in law’s hunting buddy. Two small pits on either side of the frame where it sat in a target shooter’s box for several decades.

Regards,

I am a .22 addict and I can't choose just one. If I did it would probably be my well worn 18-2 with targets.

My June 1968 vintage 17-3 is easily my favorite .22 handgun. It’s early enough it’s actually marked 17-2 (but 17-3 as per letter). Was a 17th bday gift from my father a long time ago. Still have it and it shoots as well as the day it was new.

Pretty easy one to answer. My late '50s .22 Combat Masterpiece. I have added some Culina's to it as the grips it came with are not matching.

Beautiful revolvers posted here! I need more .22lr revolvers in my life. My favorite has always been a 4” model 63 stainless. I lusted over photos of it in the early 80s as a teenager and snagged one at my LGS two years ago, not even sure if I looked at the price tag.

I really regret passing on a 3” 317 a year or two ago, will buy the next good deal on one. And a 10 shot model 617 just feels like something I “need”. Now these photos have me looking at combat masterpieces…

In my old age, I, too, enjoy shooting .22 LR. It is fun and more economical than shooting something that costs $1 per round.

My only caliber 22 is my dad’s S&W K22 Masterpiece, shipped October 24, 1950. It is a scary accurate .22 revolver, even for me.

I love my 63 and 617. However, looking at this thread I need to hit the books and learn more about the .22 Smiths.

Does anyone like the current 43C?

There are several threads here on the 43C. Many of us had lots of problems with light strikes and failure to fire with a variety of ammo. Although some reported no problems, the odds are that you'll have problems.

My 17-4 and 18-3 both from estates. The factory holster came with the model 17 as did the box and original magna grips. The 18 came with box and combats also TT/TH which according to the box is correct.

My favorite ... and I haven't seen one posted yet ...
S&W Model 317 Air-Lite " Kit Gun "
8 shots , 3 inch barrel , Adjustable Sights , Fiber-optic front sight
And what I like best ... weifght ... 11.8 ounces SWEET !!!

The 3 inch barrel is compact , 8 shot is plenty , adjustable sights let me sight in any load I choose to shoot (fiber optic front sight is neat ) and at only 11.8 ounces ... it doesn't matter where you carry it it is not noticable .
In a belt holster or pocket it's comfortable ,,,

317 Kit Gun Air-Lite with Adjustable Sights ... it's my favorite !
Gary
Sorry no photo ... camera not functioning

I have a 17-1 that I got back in 2013 which is great, but my most valued is a used Ruger Single Six that my dear wife bought for me in 2021 a few months before she passed---priceless.

My all time favorite .22 S&W handgun was a 1961 Model 53 with the extra rimfire cylinder...it was my only .22 handgun from the mid 1970s to the early 1990s... It was turned into a .327 Federal a few years ago and of the S&W .22s I have left:
18-2 w/an extra .22 Magnum cylinder
35-1 w/and extra .22 Magnum cylinder
1952 K22 6"
63 w/extra .22 Magnum cylinder
317 3"

...probably the 18-2 is the most versatile.

RKmesa, what a collection you have and thanks for sharing. Your engraved Smiths are a sight to behold and true pieces of art. And to everyone who shared a photo thanks for making this thread truly interesting.

After looking at 19 pages of Smith and Wesson 22's, I somehow feel like I'm dipping into the wrong end of pool with my one example, but it is the only one I have now.

It's a 1951 22 Masterpiece. Nothing really fancy or unique about it I suppose. Not even a good picture. Just a good shooting 22. No box or papers, but the numbers all do match. I need to shoot it more.

The one I really hate that I let get away was a 4", Colt Official Police in 22 LR. The only one I've ever seen.
