Default 4" 19-3

A member of our hunting lease and friend sent me a text message yesterday with the attached photograph and another one showing the inside of the frame, disclosing the model number and the series but, with no text.

I replied since he often sells a firearm or to asking if it is for sale or if he is considering a purchase. He response is for me to essentially tell him what I know. I wore out my fingers and thumbs providing the information and telling him that they are great firearms.

His response is that one of the "older" gentlemen he works with bought it new, shot it 20 times and put it away. The gentlemen has offered it to him with a box of .357 ammo, two speed loaders and the holster as pictured. After being told the price range, subject to actual "in hand" condition, he had the nerve to ask if the whole package was worth $350.00.

My response: "Really?" He said he would let me know if he acquires it or not. He was told that if he didn't acquire it he would be kicked out of the hunting lease. Ha, Ha!

It doesn't seem to be wearing the correct grips for a 19-3, so I think I would have to counter offer at $250...In the meantime while you're dickering and texting, tell me the exact location of the owner and the gun, and watch how fast I get there......Ben

Yes, that's quite a deal for your buddy...but if it were me I'd probably try to be a little more fair and offer $500. Still a deal, but my conscience wouldn't bother me. I have only one 4" 19-3...a Texas Ranger Commemorative from 1973. It's a beautifully made and finished revolver, and a great shooter. I really like the smooth target stocks and they fit my big mitts well. Yes, I shoot it- I'm not a commemorative collector.

Just another example of taking advantage of an "older" gentlemen. I guess some people can live with themselves and brag about how they "took" the old man in the deal. It will eventually come around to them some day.

It was an offer made in southern middle TN. My friend wisely bought the Model 19 for the exorbitant amount of $300.00. The close up photos revealed more wear than originally disclosed.

A fair price considering all of the factors.

You guys are being a little hard on jdiii's friend, aren't ya?
We don't know the 'rest of the story'... like if the friend wheels and deals with the old guy all the time, and they do a 'friend price' instead of gouging each other. Used to do that with a couple of old friends back in the 70s and 80s. In the end, no one ever got hurt, nor did they feel like they were being taken advantage of.
Kinda sad when we immediately think the worst without knowing the real story....

Long ago I had a gentleman’s agreement with a long time friend to trade two guns towards a motorcycle, the deal being that if he were to,sell, them I had first crack at them at a prearranged price.

Nine years later he passed. At his wake his ex-wife to be (going through the early divorce dance) asked another friend of his and I to,help her with his personal effects, a couple hot rods, thirty years of tools, etc. I asked her if I could buy back those guns, she asked which ones. She asked what our deal was, I told her that deal was off and,we needed to get an appraisal of fair market value and I would write down the prices that her husband and I agreed on and that whatever was the higher figure I’d give her. She then said “Im giving those to you as a remembrance and for, helping me” I disagreed.
” I argued “He’s gone, that was between us.” She said you’re going to take them or I’ll sell them to someone but I’m not taking a dime from you”

I know the last three or four years they were at odds and being a friend of his almost thirty years and well before they met, well she didn’t have to do that.

Sometimes that’s how things go.
