Default What model is this?

At the pawn shop today was another S&W. No modem number? Please see pics. Curiosity killed the cat! What is this?

It is a postwar .38 Military & Police model. At S940547, it likely left the factory in September, 1947.

It has the most common barrel length (4") and what appear to be original postwar Magna stocks. Overall, it looks to be in excellent condition. Given the dramatic rise in price for M&Ps in this particular serial range, I'd say that anything under $600 is a pretty good price, assuming it looks as good in person as it does in your pictures.

If the shop will allow it, you should check the inside of the right hand stock panel to see if the serial number stamped there matches the frame. Big plus if it does.

Postwar M&P with prewar long action. Jack types faster and gave you great information..

Yes. The long action was changed to the High Speed hammer at serial number S990184. That gun shipped on April 7, 1948, and went to Mesbla, Brazil.
