Default Looking for ball-park ship date of my 27-2

6" barrel, blued. Serial number is N138xx.

Also, would like to know at what s/n S&W started installing the locks - I assume this gun pre-dates that.

As promised, here are pics. Model 27-2 6" blued, no box. Probably 95% with slight wear on muzzle bluing and some light dings on stocks. While nice, none of my guns are stay-in-safe collectors - I shoot them. Will probably get a set of custom grips for shooting and have the originals restored. May not worry about the bluing.

There is no such thing as a ballpark estimate with shipping dates. I have a database of the ACP chambered revolvers. Two revolvers, 1100 numbers apart shipped two years apart. On the other hand two revolvers that shipped in the same month and year, were 230,000 numbers apart.

If you want to KNOW the date, you have to get the letter.

They started installing the lock in certain models in 2001.

Welcome to the Forum! Would love to see a pic of your hardware. It's a popular model.

Your 27-2 most likely shipped in 1971.
