Looked at a possibly unfired from the factory model 37 ND today. It was as clean as I have ever seen. The shop had $525 on it on consignment and said that I could take $25 off of that. I need it like another hole in my head but the little thing is calling to me to save it. what do you guys think of those little air weights. I have heard all the stuff about anodized finish wear and the frame cracking possibility. I have a lovely 649-2 and one of the new Lipsey's 432 H&R magnums. I had a beautiful RB model 12-2 that I sold due to the above issues after never carrying it and now regret selling it.

Well, I'll jump in. I have a Model 37 no dash with 3" tube and round butt. 1976-77 vintage. Got it used without a box or any goodies at a fair price. Nice little pup but with the fixed rear sight and needed light load, one needs to get somewhat close to the target to have acceptable POA and POI. Good lightweight carry gun and pretty too. Go for it.

Fantastic carry revolvers. I like an exposed hammer. I suspect if the frame under the barrel lug is not cracked now, it probably won't. I alway adhere to the policy of not shooting them in long strings. Not enough to get the barrel really hot. Aluminum and carbon steel do not expand and contract at the same rate. No one has ever said so to my knowledge, but I wonder if some of the cracking of the frame under the barrel lug is due to that. I shoot 148 grain wadcutters in mine.

IMHO $500 is just right for a M36 and a good deal for a M37

For me, the only undesirable feature of these revolvers is the exposed hammer.

The hump backed M38 and M49 are perfect.

You've posted in this forum so I'm guessing its serial number fits
here, but that also includes a wide spectrum: four s/n ranges. Not
that its a factor.

From your description $500 is a pretty good deal, no matter the s/n.

The Model 37 is a fine carry snub. Classy. The anodized Airweights, Models 12, 37, etc., acquire finish wear (character) quickly. It's okay. Looks good and the alloy frame does not rust.

I carried this Model 37 (no dash) all day. Looked new when purchased a few years ago. Now, it shows considerable finish wear on corners, across the top, and so on. I dig it. It is difficult to photograph the shiny spots.

I'll take a well worn but mechanically sound Model 37 any day. Would gladly pay $500 for a good one.
