What are these stamps?

Thanks in advance.

Stamps applied by the individuals who fitted and inspected your revolver. There is nothing unusual about them.

You may have already figured out the #33138 is the assembly # moved from being stamped in the yoke frame cutout when the Mod # and serial # began being stamped there about 1958.
It'll match the other two assembly #s on the yoke and inside surface of the side plate.

I knew the 33138 was an Assembly number.
This gun has more stamps than any of my other S&W revolvers.
Not sure if the grips are right for it. It had magnas when I got it.

Those are just assembler's and inspection markings. As for the stocks, unless special ordered, the Model 57, like the Model 29, would have shipped with target stocks.

The assemblers would assemble, the fitters fitted, the inspectors inspected...and they had to show their work was done.

The target stocks made of Goncalo alves would have the relieved area on the left stock panel, not the full speed loader cut out. Your Model 57 may have shipped in early 1981.

You have a very nice Model 57, and as Doc44 says it's probably early 1981. The GA stocks should have the "football" cutout like on the revolver in the background of your first pic. This is my nickel 4" Model 57 (N834280) from a little later in 1981. Enjoy!

I have a nickel 57 about '73 '74 that those grips came on. I know it should have football's on it. The SCSW is real clear on what year grips changed.
I just got a pair of football's for my 29-2.
Now I need 2 more sets.

The newer the gun, the larger stamps are. Especially on the right side of the grip frame.
