Default Model 29 Engraved

I thought I’d share my 4” M29. She has just enough wear that I could afford to buy it, and it also means she gets carried and shot. The holster is from El Lobo and the grips are sambar stag from Roger’s Gun Grips. The original grips are pictured as well. The trigger has been beveled and the action is slick! It letters out of Texas. Any input on the grips or the engraving would be appreciated! Thanks.

An engraved working gun. Very nice. It always seems a bit of waste to me to engrave a perfectly good firearm and then never shoot it again.

The revolvers engraving is attractive but I don't quite know what to make of those gold (painted?) stocks. The engraving doesn't appear to compliment either the gun or the holster's carving style. I guess it's what somebody wanted.

Looks like a neat package for one you intend to use. My engraved guns don't get carried although I have shot a few of them just to say I did. Nice to have one that is engraved that you don't mind carrying and using. I like the engraving and if the price were right, as you suggest it was, I probably would buy it. Tell us more about the grips that came on it? Metal rather than carved wood, if so perhaps Mexican silver. Can you post a picture with those grips on the gun? I can understand why you might not want them on a gun you plan to use but I'm guessing they look pretty good on the gun.

Thanks for sharing it with us. Maybe RKmesa will be along to provide expert opinion on the engraving.

Gorgeous gun. I want an engraved revolver but way out of my price range.
Thanks for sharing.

Are the target grips silver? They sure look like Mexican made silver grips that I see from time to time down here in Texas.

When it was engraved it had the larger grips, target style. Now with the smaller style grips the engraving does not look completed.

I shoot my engraved and gold inlaid Model 29 four inch too.

Thanks for sharing.
You could get a great deal on an engraved revolver just keep an eye out on the Used Gun / Consignment Counter at he LGS and Pawn Shops.

Somebody sold an old S&W pre-10 engraved revolver they had inherited. The LGS was selling it at the same price as similar non engraved revolvers. Basically nobody wanted it and the dealer got it cheap too.

If you do not mind, how much did you spend? Asking for a friend.

Nice, appears to be factory engraved. What year is it? Maybe start another thread with more pictures of yours and any history you have on it.

Thanks for the comments. The grips are indeed silver in color. Interesting to hear they may be from Mexico. They’ll definitely stay with the gun...I’ll have to get some pics with them on. In the meantime I may sell or trade the stags for some sort of target-sized grips. Any suggestions?

If it was mine, I would put factory smooth targets made of Brazilian rosewood on it. S&W put these on many factory engraved revolvers.
