Welcome to the Forum! That's a very nice Model 19-5, and JP@AK has correctly identified its 1983 date of manufacture. Yours is a 4" bbl. (S&W barrels are often +/- 1/8"), but they were also manufactured with 2-1/2" and 6" bbls. The Model 19s (aka the ".357 Combat Magnum" prior to 1957), are outstanding revolvers. The Model 19-5 was introduced in 1982 when S&W eliminated the pinned barrel and recessed cylinder counterbores (P&R). I only own a couple of Model 19s...a 4" Model 19-3 Texas Ranger Commemorative (1973), and a nickel 2-1/2" Model 19-4. Both are shooters, and the 4" TR is a favorite of my modest collection. Your revolver shows some honest wear on the finish, but that gives it character. It might have originally been an LEO's revolver. Get your 19-5 out to the range and have some fun. Enjoy!
