I have a smith revolver with a four inch barrel 38 s&w special ctg there is not model number. it is a 3 screw and the serial # is c 901x.
I would like some help in knowing approximately when it was produced and if it is worth anything

open the cylinder and look inside the yoke. a model number may appear there. Best is to post a picture. It's hard to ID a Smith with only a serial number. It sounds like a 1950-ish model ten. if it has an aluminum frame, it's a model 12, probably. John

If you got that serial number off the butt then it is late 1940's gun........probably a M&P.
It would also be a five screw gun

it has no model number in the yoke. i'll try to post a pic. it only has 3 screws in the side. thanks

Welcome to the forum.

VM is right.

Model numbers weren't assigned by S&W until 1957. There's an additional side plate screw that you can't see (without removing the right stock) and the screw in front of the trigger guard is also counted as a frame screw. FYI, the strain screw on the front of the grip frame is not counted as a frame screw.

It has no value - send it to me!

Condition? They made a lot of M&P's and they're great guns. Without seeing it, I'd say it's worth between $125 (Bubba refinish) and $500 (NIB).
