Another forum member came up with the idea of modifying a set of factory banana style grips by trimming the bottom and doing some reshaping.
I liked the idea so much I followed suit by getting a set of smooth factory banana grips and modifying them for my 432PD by trimming the bottom to 1/4" below the frame so it's still enclosed and not flush like a boot grip, and then tapered in the bottom to reduce bulk.
I also modified the left grip with an oversized "football" style relief cut for the extractor and/or a speed loader.
I can hold on to these a whole lot easier than the standard boot grip style and these still present a low profile.
This is how they started out life:
And how they look now... they were stripped, lightly stained with a mix of minwax mahogany & walnut stain, finshed with several coats of tru-oil, then burnished with 0000 steel wool and hand rubbed to a satin sheen.
