Greetings, All

A month or so ago, I posted a thread titled
Information Sought re: My Daddy's .357 Magnum (6 pics)

Everyone was so nice, and provided me with SO MUCH information about my Daddy's old combat magnum.

It has taken me a while, but I wanted to show you two J-Frames that were his.
Maybe you will enjoy the pictures, and maybe there will be some comments and information y'all can share with me about them that I might enjoy knowing.

First picture below is of the two guns: a Model 37 "Airweight" (lower/left) and a Model 36 (upper/right).

The Model 37 has 73999 on the yoke, and 731J95 on the heel of the butt frame.
The Model 36 has 73605 on the yoke, and 319783 on the heel of the butt frame.

This picture is of the Model 37's box, wax paper wrapper, unoppened cleaning rod and brush, instruction sheet, and unfilled out registration card. (Sadly, I have come across no materials that would have come with the Model 36.

Years of manufacture on your Dad's snubbies:
36 - early to mid 60's
37 - 1971-1972

Hi,

Reading both threads, I'll say this . . .

Your dad truly understood and appreciated quality handguns. Too bad he isn't able to get online with us and enjoy speaking to others who share his appreciation of these fine wheelguns.

Smart fellow!

You are a doubly blessed man indeed!!!

Aren't you thankful he didn't buy Charter Arms?

Thanks for the nice words folks.
Yep, my Dad had some nice guns.
I find that taking each gun, one at a time, cleaning it, taking a nice picture of it... is a nice little "ritual" for me to go through.

Question... I know that, even though this is the S&W forum, that lots of y'all have a quite broad interest in guns of all makes.
And in my first thread, about the Combat Magnum, someone specifically said:

"...and invite you to post pics of the other guns even if they aren't Smiths."

I would love to do that (eventually, as I can).
But not sure where?
There's not a "Photo" forum; or a "Not S&W" forum.
Would this Forum here (1945 to Present) be as good as any?

To: Sonny Crocket
I got the big Supica and Nahas Standard Catalog a while back.
But, man, when I went to look up the serial numbers on my Model 36 and 37 here, I found it confusing!
I "think" I see how you did it on the "36."
But still not sure about the "37".
Too many "J"s in too many different positions for it to be clear (to me anyway!).

And I forgot this picture the other night.
This is the label on the end of the "37"s box.
And the .38 Special ammunition that I found with these guns.

I could have stood all the boxes on end and showed you the prices on the end flaps.
But I didn't.
Just as well.
It would have made you cry!

Those two years were known, on here, as the "floating J" models. Because the J moved through the serial number instead of being a prefix. Everytime I see a serial number like yours its the easiest to tell by me what year it is because of that.
