S&W 27-2,4" nickel prices
Ran across this 4" nickel 27-2. Very nice, but no box or paperwork. Owner asking $1000. Not familiar with this model. Looking for suggestions,on the price.

I'll give you the one line that has always got someone to buy, that asked me for advice.
"If you don't buy it, I will."

If it is a factory nickel plating, "yes". Even more of a "yes" if it has its original stocks.

I think Im being kiddin here. Please go buy it, even if it is a bit dirty. If the grips are right and there is an "N" on the left flat, buy now! You just made an easy $500.

M-27
I just bought one, I had been looking at it for about a year, Gentleman was asking $1400 but it didn't move because everyone is looking for a 3 1/2 and 5 inch and this was a very dirty gun. I offered $900 and discussed the condition with him. We settled on $1100. Four inches is rarer than the other two barrel sizes. 4 inch was not a cataloged size until 1977 when the 3 1/2 and 5 inch barrel sizes were discontinued. Prior to that 4 inch M 27s were special order. Also note only about 10% were nickel .

Sounds like an excellent buy! An LGS has one at $1299 that indicates the presentation case is included (though I’ve not asked yet to see that or the gun).

In 1985 I bought mine for $250.00. Pachmayr stocks but a polished action. I joke I bought it because I couldn't find a 4" M-28.

Not really "handy" by modern standards but worth owning, especially at that price. Joe

I don't buy older revolvers without box and papers, but it comes down to 3 things. Condition, condition, condition.

Model 27-2 Nickel
Agreed on a price with the owner. Set up a place to meet. About an hour or so after our agreement. He text me back,to say he changed his mind. Decided he liked it .ore, since he found out more about the gun. Decided he was going to keep it. Well it's still listed. A friend texted him. He said it was still for sale. $200 higher than what we agreed to. So I texted him,and asked if he changed his mind, and decided to sale. He said he just hadn't taken the posting down. I don't know what his game is other than wanting more money.

So he made a deal with you, then changed the deal. He is one to be avoided.

S&W 27-2,4" nickel prices
If it’s our state gun board we have a bunch of idiots on there and the gun is still posted with a price of $1200 if we’re talking about the same gun listed down in Houston.

For some reason I see more nickel four inch 27-2's pop up for sale than blued versions.
Also see quite a few nickel guns that are not pinned but have recessed cylinders.
The 4" N frame is one of my favorites and I prefer them to the 3.5" and the 5".

Same here. I believe when Smith dumped the 3.5 and 5 inch guns and catalogued the 4 inch in the late 70’s, they made more nickel than blue.

The 4" Model 27-2 had to compete against the 4" Model 28-2 ( against the 19-3 and 66 as well) guessing the nickel gave it a bit of pizazz.

IIRC the 4" 27 was cataloged [the 3 1/2 &5 guns were dropped] ..... in 1979; and the L-frame was introduced in 1980, taking a bite out of K and N-frame sales!

I think M27's have always stood on their own since they are S&W's "flagship" model. All other .357M's are 6-cyl Chevy Novas where the blued M27 is a Z/28 Camaro and the nickel ones are L-88 Corvettes by comparison.
Keep looking, OP. They're out there but bring a fully loaded wallet with you.

I finally was able to buy the Nickel model 27. Very nice firearm. The owner was a very nice guy, just was reluctant to sale the gun,but finally decided to turn it loose.

Did you pay his asking price, or were able to knock a few bucks off? You folks have all the good guns down your way.

Congratulations Goldwinghd, you have a fine revolver. You didn’t hurt yourself even if you paid his full asking price. Take care of it and it will do nothing but increase in value. Check around for a presentation case. They show up once in a while on some of the auction sights.
