I just picked up this M&P off gunbroker and would love to know if this would be a former police issue. There are additional numbers that are not part of the SN. Wear on the barrel looks like long days riding in a holster. Any help would be great.

I have a nice Model 65-3 marked TPD U-593. Its a 4", Square Butt. Grips are not original, currently wearing Combat Grips. Since I have owned it, an action job was done by someone who knew what he was/is doing. It shot very well before the action job and got even better after the work. I mostly run .38s in it, my Handload of 4.2 Grains of Unique, a Lyman 358429 162 Grain Elmer Keith design SWC (supposed to be a 170 Grain bullet but my allow is hard) lubed with Lyman SuperMoly, and a CCI #500 Primer. Accurate, fun to shoot and reliably topples steel IDPA type targets.

I understand that it was a Toledo PD Issue sidearm. Toledo is my old hometown. I will post pics when I get a chance.

Just found this thread. Here is my S&W Model 10-6. It was made special for the New York State Police in 1972. They wanted the Model 10 but in 357 Magnum. So S&W made several thousand of them. Other police departments started wanting them so they made them, calling it the Model 13. The 10-6 came with a .400 smooth combat trigger and a .375 hammer. I think S&W missed the boat on not putting these features on the Model 13. I wish this revolver could talk! The finish is bad. Still has POA!

The M&P on top was carried by a SHeriff's Deputy from the 1950's to the 1970's, it is a reblued Victory Model.

I carried the 66 and 15 (Farrant's) on the left. The 66 on the right was carried by friend and the 15 with Pachs was the last 15 in my Department's inventory, it escaped the transition to the SIG 226.



The Hogue grips were popular in the late 70's as they were the first massed produced "ergonomic" stocks. The pair on the right hand 66 was the second pair of these stocks to hit the streets in our area. The ones on the left 66 were the third pair to hit the streets. Not a big distinction to be sure, but what the heck....

I don't think it looked like this when it was with the L.A.S.D.

I inherited this Model 15 from my father when he passed. As I recall, he received the gun from his brother (also now deceased) but from there I have no idea how the gun was acquired. I decided a few years ago to have the gun lettered and according to S&W, it was shipped in 1973 to the Navajo Nation in Arizona for what I assume to have been the reservation police. No markings but some honest wear on the bluing.





The stocks are some PC magnas I added as I was carrying at the time. It now wears the numbered magnas it shipped with.

These have been shown before; My two duty guns I bought before the practice was banned by Gov. Pataki which allowed LEO'S to purchase their turned in weapons, when the respective departments upgraded or purchased new handguns. Both no dash Model 66'S, 4" uniform work, 2 1/2" plainclothes. I liked/used smooth grips over checkered grips as they didn't tear up the car's interior, or catch on clothing.

Model 10-2 shipped to Seattle PD on May 16, 1962. Purchased this revolver from another great forum member. In fact, the picture was taken by him.

I would dearly love to find a Model 10 from that agency, my old one. I left before they went to Glocks and thus did not have the opportunity to buy mine or another one before they were sold somewhere else. I did post a WTB but couldn't pass this opportunity to publicize my WTB up!!

First is Kansas City RM Reg.#5004, shipped 1939.


Next up is Registered Magnum #806 shipped to Claude Goldsmith, deputy sheriff, Port Arthur, TX in 1936.

Another 3" Model 10 from the Victoria, Australia Police.

Purchased from Bud's for $299. It has the tightest lockup of any of my S&W revolvers. I purchased it for my 3" revolver collection, and when it arrived my wife said 'That's mine.' So it is destined to be her house gun.

I sent it off to S&W for refinish and an action package, but found out it was going to sit there forever and not even get looked at. So I had them send it back, and now it is at Ford's waiting for a refinish. When it returns, it will get a set of Spegel extended boot grips in Bolivian rosewood.

Hope she didn't have to fire it!

A PD used Model 28 ... personal purchase, issue was a Model 15. Equipped with 1979 era night sights....

I've seen this pic before. It's from an Aussie TV show. But the gun is correct for the force depicted.

One such show is called,"Blue Heelers." It's featured a couple of actresses who were on, "The Lost World" series. That one was filmed in Queensland.

On the Aussie Model 10's, what is the marking above the logo on the right side of the frame. Is it a decal?

That is a type of bar code. I think they all had them. My 3 inch did.

It is a decal with a scanning square and an inventory number.

Mine says VPA 03*** (Victoria Police Armory)

They used the scanner to quickly scan and issue them out to the officers and then back in on return.

I'm extremely late on this thread, I love reading old ones to find out tons of info on guns. I have to say, that collection you have sounds unbelievable!! That's got to be a sight to see! That's wonderful, hopefully by now you have a New Mexico gun too. I'd love to see all those! That sounds like way too much to post in its own thread, maybe you have by now and I just haven't seen it, but wow, just wow. That is impressive!

The only old police gun I have was my issued service revolver, a Model 10-7 SB snub, purchased for $135 when we traded our blue guns for the new stainless revolvers. It’s set up the way I carried it, magnas w/a Tyler TGrip, and sits in my nightstand w/two speedloaders.

My two former U.S. Customs revolvers. The top is my Model 66 that I was first issued as a Customs Patrol Officer in 1980. I was lucky enough to get it back from a distributor that bought it in an exchange sale prior to Clinton coming to office.

The second is a 3' CS-1 that was also an issued U.S. Customs revolver. This one wasn't issued to me, I got it from Lew Horton after they had done an exchange sale with Customs.

Earlier this year I picked up a nice 4" model 10-8 heavy barrel from J&G sales that advertised these as police trade in's. There's nothing stamped on it that says "police" other than a C.A.I. importer stamp. I called S&W customer service & gave them the serial # and was told it was produced in 1985. Shoots great and has become my EDC in a OWB DeSantis thumb break speed scabbard.

A couple months ago I sent it back to S&W to get refurbished/reblued. I can't wait to get it back!

This Model 66 was carried by Patrolman Larry Childress, Memphis Police Dept. who was killed on duty in January 1982. I have a letter from S&W saying it was shipped to the Shelby County Sherrif's Dept. Oct, 1972 and a letter from the lady I bought it off of whose late husband was a member of the Memphis Police stating that it belonged to Officer Childress with the story and how it was obtained.

This 66-1 is 1 of 5 that were shipped to the Sangamon County (Illinois) Sheriff's Office on March 6, 1980. Original stocks were checkered walnut Magnas

Here are a pair of Chiefs Specials.

The first is a Baby Chiefs 3" (frog hair) given to a Queens NYC PD Lt. by his men for Christmas '53.

The second is a "Model of 1953" with the Pennsylvania Railroad logo, well used and a bobbed hammer. The last photo also shows a PRR cigarette lighter given to me by a forum member -- it had been his granddad's.

Lucky dog. My issued CS-1 ended up being destroyed after Clinton administration changed the rules. I had tagged also for buy-back, but later found out what had really happened to it.

Wow...Zombie thread!! But one that is close to many of our hearts, so guess it's good to go...

I have a few former police guns, my two model 66 no dashes that were issued to me, a 4" and a 2 1/2". Also the Glock that replaced them.

Recently I updated my old 66 to 1980's high tech .... installed the bobbed hammer, combat trigger, Patridge sight - not to mention the Fuzzy Farrants!

When we resold used NYCPD revolvers many,many years ago those with Shield ( Badge) numbers on them brought less money than those without the the PD identification.
No 'collector' value back then.
