I know you guys are no doubt thinking that I am splitting hairs on my new 642 but what do you guys think about the small groove in the frame just behind the trigger in the photo?
I have seen this in pictures on a couple other 642's here on the forum. But I looked at two other 642's at the store today and did not see this little groove.
I checked to make sure the trigger isn't making contact with the frame in this area and it isn't touching as I can see light between the trigger and the frame with the trigger all the way back.
This little mark was on the frame when I opened the case when I bought the 642 new yesterday.
Any way what do you think.
Thanks

Falcon,
I had not noticed before but I just checked my 642 S/N CJA3XXX and I have two leeetle marks behind the trigger. They seem to align with the interior groove edges of the trigger back.

To check for trigger contact, I put a thin paper strip behind the trigger and pulled it as far as possible. The trigger pinned the paper to the frame. I'm sure that's the cause of my marks. I believe trigger travel is stopped elsewhere in the mechanism and this bit of contact is incidental to the sum of machine tolerances.

Conclusion:
I didn't know and it didn't bother me.
Now I know and it doesn't bother me.

Welcome to the forum.

Excellent carry gun. The mark wouldn't bother me much. Put a few boxes of cartridges thru it and make sure it's functionally reliable, that's the bottom line.

Just checked mine, no mark. But at relec stated, it pins a small piece of paper to the frame when fully held back.

Carry it for two months, and that'll be the least of all the marks on it!

Take it to a real gunsmith and have them look at it with their eye piece.

I had two spots in my 6906 that I was sure were cracks. It was the magazine rubbing as it went in. When steel and aluminum rub it leaves a strange mark.

Well I have looked at more new 642's and about half of them have this same mark in the same spot.
So I must conclude that this mark behind the trigger is a result of something during the frame forging process.
