Hi all,
I picked up this baby at the Tanner Gun Show in Denver this past weekend. It is a model 629-5 Fixed Sight with a 2 1/2 inch barrel in 44 magnum and is Prelock. It came complete with box and docs.
According to the Standard catalog a small run of these were made in 2000 for Camfour Distributing but I have no other information. It came with Hogue's but as you can see she now adorns Ahrends.
Any additional information is greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Sandy Jacobs

I don't have any more information on it, but it looks like a winner. Hand cannon comes to mind as a description for this beauty. Very nice!

I appreciate the insightful comments.
SmithNut, where did you acquire that wonderful poster collection?
Regards,
Sandy

Sandy, I have one within 20 numbers of yours. Here's what Mr. Jinks had to say.
"We have researched your Smith & Wesson Model 629-5, Stainless .44 magnum Fixed Sight Variation, caliber.44 Remington Magnum in company records which indicate that your handgun, with serial number CDT50xx, was shipped from our factory on November 19, 1999, and delivered to Camfour Inc., Westfield, MA. The records indicate that this firearm was shipped with an 2.5 inch full lug barrel, satin finish, fixed sights, and checkered rubber round butt grips."
He did not indicate in his letter how many of this configuration were shipped.
nice find.

I've got one of these also, but mine definitely came from the factory with wooden grips. Maybe they did two runs of them?

Very cool. I would load that with .44 special silvertips and carry it.

I can remember when no one wanted the four inch 29 because the barrel was TOO short, it kicked too much, and it just WASN'T the Dirty Harry gun.......

Hi all,
I appreciate the additional information and the kind words.
I have been saving a box of Winchester 44 Special Silvertips for a special occasion and I guess this is it.
One cylinder of 240 grain Hydra Shocks should light up the shooting lane for sure!
Best,
Sandy Jacobs

Hi all,
The 629-5 with the 2 ½ inch barrel is totally awesome. I had a box of Winchester 44 Special Silvertips and they grouped quite nicely. Then I filled a cylinder full of Corbon 165 grain HP’s and she became a fire breather as a few lookers came by to see the ‘Cannon”. However, they were accurate and controllable, to an extent!
Frankly, it is the ultimate in a defensive revolver so, I will be selling my 3 inch Lew Horton 629-1 to recoup my investment and keep the fixed sight 629-5.
Thanks to everyone for their input.
Best,
Sandy Jacobs
