Is there any rhyme or reason to the numbering system for S&W marked holsters? The numbers don't seem to coincide with the pistol models they fit, but they must mean something. Is there a chart for decoding?

Sabre....Thanks alot! I was just looking at a S&W holster on E-Bay and trying to figure out if it really fits what the seller advertised.
You answered the question for me. I'm printing your post for future reference.
Thanks again!

Thanks for the posting & great reply.
This has saved me quite a bit of money.
I was given a holster, but didn't know what gun it was for. Thanks to your chart, I now see that I already have something that it was made for, so I won't HAVE to buy a gun for the holster.
Of course, if the right one comes along...

Jed,
Is that the 10 28 shoulder holster on eBay? If so, it is the holster that prompted my query. Let me know if you are going to bid and I will lay off, otherwise I was thinking of buying it if I could figure out what it fit. Did you figure out what it fits?

The first two digits are the holster style and the second two are the gun it fits. 10 is a high ride belt holster for autoloaders and 28 doesn't not compute as a gun to fit that holster. Suggest you check that number and repost and somebody will help I'm sure.

Hmm, sabre, whatever you posted is no longer displaying. I'm seeing a graphic that reads "A subscription is required to use your photos on third party websites"

A big THANK YO' to sabre for posting that S&W Holster Chart! I've seen a lot of old good S&W holsters up for auction at various places, and usually the people that are selling them have no idea what firearms they're for. Now I'm educated!

I was given 2 older S&W holsters. One is marked (logo) 21 26; The other (logo) 21 08. The 21 08 appears like it might have been for a Single Action Army-type revolver with 7.5" barrel.
Thanks for any info you may have.

I have a Smith and Wesson holster that is a copy of the old Hank Sloan/Threepersons straight draw. It has the S&W logo and the number 7 at the bottom of the holster. Here are a couple of photos. By the way it is left hand.

So... How come I've got an upside-down labelled "03 42"?

My dad presented me with his Victory model .38 this past Christmas. He had it in an old Smith & Wesson holster. It's brown basketweave.
Does anybody out there have a S&W brown 6 round cartridge loop loader they wanna get rid of? It would make an awesome accompaniment for it.
I found this one on egay a few weeks ago, but was out of town and got outbid.

Gary-
I was never able to find anything more about it. I can tell you that it is only worth $18.50 on ebay!

Add to FAQ's?
Is it possible to put the holster chart post in the FAQ's?
It's nice info.
Thanks,
H C Cook
