In shooting my Model 58 I found an Uncle Mike's glove very comfortable, yet a few shots using factory checkered grips knocked my middle finger knuckle to ringing and the checkering began gouging palm skin. The Hogue-looking grips that came with my M657 Classic Hunter are good enough to control recoil with only minor stinging across the palm after enough shooting, but the gun will re-position in my hand a few times in the course of a cylinder-full. That's good enough for the shooting I do with it, but the M58 needs something else to be shot comfortably. I like Hogue grips, especially the tapered set I have on a Dan Wesson, but the design looks like it will cover up the serial number on my M58. I've looked through the site a bit and it appears my best option is a set from Ahrends, probably finger groove that I can sand down if they're not quite right.

What're you using on your N-frame square-butt revolvers?

I use wood Hogues or custom grips from forum member Kurac.
Why does it matter if the serial number is covered? Factory Target grips cover the serial number. You are not removing the serial number, which would be a crime.

I've got targets, Executioner's elk stag, and Ahrends on the 3 N frames I shoot most often. Each work quite nicely.
