A friend bought a 19-2 .357 with the 2 1/2" pinned barrel and recessed cylinder chambers. He said it's in excellent condition with just a slight turn ring. No box but it came with three holsters (not sure what kind). He said he paid $499 for the gun.

He wanted my opinion if it was a good deal. I told him I thought it was good. He didn't steal it and he didn't overpay for it. I said I thought any pre-internal lock S&W, let alone a 19-2 with the pinned barrel, recessed cylinder chambers and the old and beautiful blueing was really holding its value.

What do you all think?

If it is really in EXCELLENT Condition, with JUST a "Turn Ring", then I think it was a FAIR price--not a BARGAIN, not a RIP-OFF. Paulie686.

Unseen I would say the same. Fair price. Holster are another thing some times.

I've bought two model 19 snubbies this year, both 19-5, one in unfired condition and one in 98% condition, and my average price is $500 each. I think that is a fair price, not high and not low.

It is just about the standard going rate for 2 1/2" Model 19s right now.

That being said I personally place a premium on 19-2s in the 2 1/2" barrel length. If it is in the first 50 made in 1963, I would pay considerably more.

The next time the 2 1/2" 19-2 was made was 1966. The change to 19-3 took place in 1967. So the number of 19-2s in 2 1/2" is actually pretty low.

the best

RWT

The 6" Model 19 was also introduced in the 19-2 era, in 1963. That's the excuse for buying one of each. :-)
