The night guard series has a 40 S&W revolver. I had a model 646 (I think) back when they first came out. A Performance Center gun. It has been too long for me to remember the details but the gun just didn't work. Smith made two runs of performance center 40's as I remember and then a regular production revolver. So my question is, do these guns work now?

OK, what you are refering to is the night guard 310 which is a 10 mm that will also shoot 40 S&W. I would say you are comparing apples and grapes. I do have a 646 which is an L frame and the 10 mm is an N frame. I don't know what kind of problems you had from the PC 646, but I have had both without any problems. please advise. But I don't think you can compare the NG 10 mm to to the 646.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the S&WModle 646 in 40 S&W. It's an L-framed 6 shot 40S&W with a titanium cylinder and stainless frame and barrel. I have used mine for USPSA and ICORE competition for several years without a single hiccup. The problem was that the IDPA rules changed just as the Model 646 was announced and would have put the 646 in a new revolver class along with all other moonclipped revolvers. Poor timing on S&W's part caused by the IDPA ruling crowd changing the rules.

My 646 is a shootin' fool, but it only goes to ICORE now.
