I bought my Model 29-2 8&3/8s about 20 years ago without a box. It's at least a 98% gun with perfect stocks. Paid $250 for it then.

The S&W website has a large wood case listed @ $59.83.
Is this presentation case the same as the originals? Were there any kind of tools included in the original sets?

I'd just like to have mine complete with one of those if it's the same type. It currently resides in a gun rug in my safe.

the new cases are beautiful but not the same as the original...my 1976 model 29-2 which i purchased new came in a lighter color wooden case,no emblem on the top and the corners are dovetailed...included in the case is a cleaning rod, brush, mop, and screwdriver...i see these often on ebay in the $100-$150 range
hope this helps!

Armybrat,
Here is what your gun's presentation case should look like. Yours would be slightly wider as this one is for a 6.5" 29. Watch the classifieds on this forum and check Gun Broker as well. A nice one will bring the best part of 100.00 (or more), but we do have a member here that does a beautiful job of restoring them if you find one that is not perfect.

If your 29-2 dates to 1979 or later, the correct case is the one with the revolver pointing to the right with the accessories contained in a compartment below the barrel. The first three digits of the s/n (assuming an N prefix) would help me identify the correct case.

The accessories are: screwdriver with a fluted aluminum handle and hollow ground tip, cotton swab, and aluminum cleaning rod with a brush attached (copper bristles).

I have a beautiful unrestored case from an earlier Model 29(8 3/8")that is in beautiful condition and does not need restoration. I do have a packaged set of tools available separately. I am asking $100.00+ shipping for the case only. Email me, privately, if interested. I will take photos if you wish.

While on the subject, are there different cases for the 6" and 6 1/2" models or are they the same. Or, did they even make cases for the later models?

The case liners are different, but the boxes are the same for the 6" & 6 1/2". The 6.5's are harder to find.

Hey Armybrat
As Doc44 pointed out, the period correct case for your gun might have this type liner.

The cases we are talking about are the Mahogasny Presentation cases used from approx. 1960-1983! S&W had cases before and after these, however they used different boxes and different liners. On most of the Mahogany cases the liners did not withstand the test of time, whether they were used to store a gun or not! They can be restored!

Welcome to the forum!

I might be able to help you out, but I can't contact you off forum since I don't see an e-mail address in your profile.

You need to put your e-mail address in your profile so that others can contact you, and it is required to be there if you do business in the classified section.
