Just saw a model 28 factory replaced with 6 /2" 44/40 barrel and cylinder. I like shooting the 544 but was wondering what this was worth?

The 544 has always seemed to be unpopular. I'd say a 28 converted to 44/40 would be worth $350.00 as a shooter, but maybe not easy to find a home for. That 44WCF ammo ain't cheap!

About $200.00 less than it would be worth if it had been converted to 44 Special.

Greg, thats a strange one!

If it's in nice condition I'd think maybe $400 - odd caliber and non-original gun ain't a good combo for appealing to potential buyers.

I love the 44/40 but am not excited about single actions that most 44/40's are chambered in. I of course love N Frames. I thought it would make a good combo. I reload so I am not too concerned about ammo anymore than I would a 44 special(about 4 dollars a box with commercial cast and 2 dollars with my own cast boolits.)
My next search is for a model 610 converted to a 38/40!!!

Wellll...
I went ahead and bought it. It looks like a long barrel M24 but shoots a 44/40. It is accurate with reasonable recoil. I had a lot of fun shooting it.
Unlike my 544 which takes all brands of brass I have to stick with winchester brass as remingtons and starline are too thick.
I will have pics soon.

BBeans.
My gunshow calendar says there is a show in Tucson at Fairgrounds this weekend. Bring your 44-40 to the show. I want to see it. I'll be the guy with blue NRA hat and red suspenders walking about with a big smile. I like gunshows. I plan on being there Sat.

Careful buckbeans, Bill will try to trade you out of that thing! No problem though, as I think he has a 4" 617 no dash as trade bait!

I just bought it!
Why would anyone one want a perfectly reamed cylinder pinned and recessed for an obscure cartriage?
