I was at my local toy store today and there is a very nice and clean model 64 with a 4" pencil barrel,,,,, I didnt want to hijack the other 64 thread.
But what is so special about the 64 pencil barrel?
The owner said I could have it for 385.
What would you do?
I personally was looking at it thinking Square to round butt conversion, But for 385 I didnt take it to change it, So there it still sits in Bucks county PA.
Tell me about the PB 64.
Thank you
Peter.

All there is to love about a standard barrel M-10...Lite, nice handling. accurate in a very versitle caliber. Plus it's dishwasher safe
I've wanted one for quite a while. No where near as common as the HB. Just a neat little gun.

The taper barrel M64 was only made for about 2-3 years which makes it a nice addition to a collection. They aren't just growing on trees, don't ya know.

I'd offer him $300 otd , offer him 330 on his $350 counter, and buy it for $340 OTD (assuming a good clean tight gun with original modified magnas). I would then get in touch with Patrick (aka executionor) and order a pair of bone service (not magnas)grips for it with medallions, put a silver tyler on it with the new grips and have a wayyyyyyyyyy retro revolver that shots like a dream. Ask me how I know this

I really dont think he will budge from 385.
Unless I find something else to add to the purchase like the nice Unertl 10X scope that he also has, But I cant drop that kind of dough.
I am now thinking that I need to let it pass and most likely will never see another again.
Would it be evil to buy it, Round butt it and make it a 38 super shooter?
I have been looking at 250dollar model 10s to do this, But I would rather a stainless to do it with,,, It seems to rare to hack, And the grips are like new Magnas!!

That seems a little high to me, and I think you'll see one again.
I paid $199. plus tax for mine a little over a year ago. The gun store had several of them, police trades I think. They were all in very good condition, but had mixed up grip numbers.
If it's in the box, collector grade, that's probably a different story, at least to someone.
Mine rides in the glove box of my commuter car.....

While I don't want to overly influence your decision, I sure love my own 64 no-dash - shown below. It went to the range with me tonight and I shot two 6 shot groups (out of a box of 50) of under 1" unsupported from 30'. For me - that's fairly unusual. I'm just saying that the Model 10/64 tapered barrel lends itself to accurate shooting.
I would say that a clean example like you describe would go for $350-ish around here.
How many of these have you seen in that condition over the last year or two?
Good luck with your decision,
Jerry

I bought one in 1971, in Italy no less. It is a 64 tapered barrel with a round butt. I got it beause it remined me of our Army Aviation issue revolvers, M10s with either barrel, most round butts. It has turned out to be one of my favorites in .38 special (and that is saying something, because the .38 special is one of my favorite calibers).
BTW, at that time in Italy all I had to do was show my passport, and walk out with the gun after signing a statement that I knew I could not carry it concealed (or openly) in Italy.
Italians buying the same gun had to jump through all sorts of hoops, and probably would not end up being able to buy the gun.
After learning how easy it was for me to buy in Italy, I started spending a lot of my (small) disposable income on guns while I was stationed there.

I have one of those that I bought in LN condition with box and all papers. It was from a collector's large collection that was being sold off. It had not been fired since it left the factory. Frankly, I don't know what I paid for it but it wasn't $200! They are rarely seen and that was the first one I saw. I am 54 and have been looking at guns many, many years. It is one of my favorite .38's also. Maybe something like that would go for a couple of hundred somewhere but not around here! I say if you want it, buy it. If you want to chop it up, get a beater M10...

I know it's not very nice of me but here's a little more incentive for you.
