Default Anyone recognize these stocks?

Does anyone know the maker of these? I can’t seem to remember or maybe I never knew!

Whoever made them knew what they were doing and the wood is beautiful. Any insight would be appreciated.

They look like factory smooth target presentation stocks for a commemorative that have been checkered. I'm not aware of the factory doing that kind of checkering in the timeframe those stocks would have been produced, not sure the factory was even making stocks in the late '80s/'90s, but perhaps it did. Or perhaps they're not factory stocks at all, sure look like later factory ones to me though. Whatever they are, I like them.

Modified factory stocks were my initial thought as well but when you have them in your hand or can compare them to factory stocks the butt of the stocks are substantially bigger. They feel great in the hand.

While I don’t disagree that they aren’t factory I believe the stocks with the double speed loader cuts did not have washers from the factory

Actually the presentation stocks for LEO agency commemoratives did.

I had one with the NCSHP with factory smooth presentation grips with the cutout on both panels and they had medallions.

The very last version of factory S & W Target stocks deleted the stock washers. However, my recollection is these had a stamped date code.

These are similar to factory but have much nicer wood and checkering, and has extensive re-contouring of the lower sections from stock (almost to a Special Target/"Coke" style, so I vote aftermarket.

I think they are killer stocks with that wide checking pattern and contoured bottom. Are they for the N frame?

S&W phased out circle inserts in the mid-1980's. The earliest set I have without the inserts is dated February 1986.

The latest set I have with inserts is dated June of 1987. S&W didn't like to throw things away and used up their old stock whenever possible.

Anything special about these target grips?-000_5311-jpg

I'd say those started out as factory book-matched smooth target stocks that later had the bottom rounded and were nicely hand checkered. The sharpie numbers and router marks are typical of late factory target and combat stocks. I have no clue who modified them, but they did a nice job!

I had a Model 17-5 for awhile. This was one of the last K-22s before the barrel lug. It had the 3 Ts. The stocks seemed crude and badly finished compared compared to stocks from a decade earlier. When I removed the stocks I was surprised to see that there were no medallion washers.
