There is "cold blue" and then there is "cold blue". In other words, some is good and some is not so good.

I have done considerable bluing with Brownell's Oxpho-Blue and it is very attractive and long lasting. It comes liquid and gel. Get the gel - easier to apply and use.

For a little touch up on some high points - muzzle, sight edges, front of the cylinder & gun edges I think it's OK. Be careful on highly polished factory blue as it can leave a tell tale streak, but on matte (picture the trigger guard on a 28) surface it works well. I use Oxpho also, just as good as anything else.

Don't do it. Leave the poor gun alone, just clean and oil it. Cold blue is ****, it's deadly poison and it will only cause more damage. I would much rather have a gun with honest marks, than one that‘s been “touched-up“. If I see or smell cold blue on a gun (and it‘s pretty easy to tell), I avoid it like the plague. I don't care how rare the gun is, I‘m just completely soured. I’m not alone in that opinion.

Cold blue has ruined more good guns than the Williams Brothers. That **** should be outlawed and the manufacturers sued for damages. Just say NO, PLEASE!

Buy ANY brand at the gun shop.
Walk outside, and, before you get in your car, shake it well.
Unscrew cap, and pour it out in the parking lot where no one will step in it.
Put cap back on, and toss bottle when you get home.
This is the way it works BEST.

No Lee!!! You put a 38/44 HD with a little honest wear in a 5 gal. drywall bucket of the stuff and then bring it to Louisville NGD TO SELL.

(and then put a beat-up set of Jay Scott stocks on it.)

Ask $800.

Of all the cold blues, Oxpho blue is the best, and even it won't last long. It will rub off pretty quickly. Really it isn't worth the bother.

I have used the Blue Wonder 3 part hot blue kit on several guns and have been pretty pleased with it. It is under 20 bucks for the kit that will do 10 or twelve handguns and it has always improved my guns(some more than others). Use a couple of hair dryers to heat the gun, then apply the Blue Wonder process and it will not stick to the original bluing, just to the bare spots. It is not a miracle product but I have taken many 80-85% guns and turned them into 92-95% guns and its fairly quick and fun to do.
