Hello!

Today I picked up my S&W Model 60 with 5 inch barrel. This one has frame-mounted firing pin and rebounding hammer. Is it OK to dry fire this gun without snap caps? I have been doing this with my single action Rugers for a long time, with absolutely no ill effects.

Thanks,
Niklas

It will not hurt your gun. I do it to mine all the time, and S&W says it's alright to do with their centerfires.

Dry firing center fire pistols and revolvers will not hurt them, but dry firing a rimfire will, because the firing pin hits the rim, and that is were it headspaces.
