Hi guys I'm trying to identify the Serial number range in N Frames for the year 1972. I have it that they started with roughly N60000.
Does anyone know where they stopped that year? Or started out in 1973 I'm having a hard time locating that list.

Thanks

Model 29-2 revolvers in the N18000-N25000 range were shipped in 72; N60000 started sometime 1973. S&W wasn't making very many 29-2s in the early 70s.

Not possible

It would be ALMOST impossible to say a small group of numbers, like the ones you ask about, all shipped in 1972! As stated #N61345 shipped Sept 1973. I know #N236xx shipped Oct 1972, #N650xx shipped Nov 1972, and #N703xx shipped Nov 1972. If you were to order a letter on each of the 25 serial numbers you ask about I believe you would find them shipped on many different dates in 1972 and 1973 and maybe earlier or later.

Sure your right, and I fully understand that the comany didn't ship in consecutive order. There were various production delays. Reasons normally were inventory of parts, delays special groups of serial numbers that got shipped in mass as produced to orders like those of Police Departments, An entire rack of frames could have become Model 28's where the next rack went to become Model 58's or Model 29's etc. It normally would astound the people who were making their first trip to the plant that a facility of this size could turn out the vast number of units that it did in the first place. This was even more present when you ventured to Hartford and toured under the blue Dome with the Rampant Colt on top.

Back in the 70's and early 80's I had made several trips to 2100 Roosevelt Ave. (read that Heaven) This was to eventually include one for the 125th anniversary celebration. My favorite part of those trips to the plant was visiting with the "Fitters." But as I started this thread I was merely trying to post a group of serial numbers to see if anyone who might have one close to those, knew when it was shipped. I also long for the good old days when we could still get parchment from Roy for $25.00. But alas Beer used to be a nickel a glass too.

But let me take a moment to say thank you to everyone who chimed in here. I am grateful and it was good information all.
