Looking for info on Model 31-1

This a weapon I inherited from my uncle and I'd like to get some information/date this particular revolver. I will more than likely be getting a letter from S&W but this is a start.

.32 S&W Long
3 inch barrel
blued finish

The model 31 (previously produced as the 32 Regulation Police on the Improved I Frame) 6 shot There were considerable variations and barrel lengths made. Post War S/N range 536685 to 826977 and produced from 1948 to 1991. The dash -1 was the beginning of the actual J Frame production in 1961at s/n 712954. The "H" s/n range was begun in 1969, and your s/n would be from about 1975-1976.

These are very enjoyable firearms, and ammo is still available and they are an accurate and dependable little gun. The 32 Long was carried by many police departments for many years, and while not the best, can be considered a defensive weapon.
