Model 19-2 2 1/2 in .357
I have a S&W Mod. 19-2 2 1/2 in .357 in Excellent condition that I am thinking about selling. Problem is, I have no idea what it is worth. There are none on Gunbroker so I am thinking this is a rare gun to find. Any ideas as to the value. It is blued and haven't been used in 30 yrs.

Jerry,
Welcome to the forum! You have a very desirable gun. The Md 19 has a big following and 2.5 inch barrels are not common. However, it will be very difficult to give you a valuation without more info. Does it have the original box, documents and tools? Does it have a dash and a number following the model number? What about stocks, are they original to the gun? Excellent condition doesn't really describe the condition. If you can post some pictures here it would go a long way to giving you the information you need. Also, I'm sure there are members here on the forum who would be happy to consider purchasing your gun.

It's not rare at all, but it can be relatively pricey. Depending on condition and originality (stocks, box, accessories) that can only be determined with high quality pictures, the value can vary. $450-750 is my wild guess. 5 replies will provide 5 prices, most likely.

Yes, you'll get a range of prices, but I agree with $450 on the low end, and could see something above $750. I recently paid about $550 for a very nice one with no box or paperwork, and was happy.

Early run diamond Magna 19 snubs can fetch a premium, later non diamond Magna 19-2 snubs not so much.
If you post the serial we can tell you if its early or late.

From the track data I've collected, the AVERAGE PRICE trend for the 19 snubbies is pushing hard on $700 with better examples commanding higher prices.

As a matter of principal, start high and come down if it doesn't move as fast as you want. I suggest a couple weeks, at least.

S&W md 19-2 .357 2 1/2barrel
In response to my thread….It is a Model 19-2 and it does have the original stocks however, I do not have the box or tools as I purchased it privately some years ago and it has a holster with it. If anyone wants pictures I can send them, just email me at [email protected]
I have not seen one like it anywhere…I have seen the 19-3, 4 and 5's but not a 19-2…..and the one on gun brokers right now is a 19-5 and my gun is in better condition than that one according to the pictures…...

The 19-5 has a set of expensive factory R/B combat grips. I think that is part of the high $ bids.

There are several 2 1/2" 19-2's on G/B's completed listings. You have to look at those to get a feel on value. Some went for crazy $!

Last winter, I bought a 2 1/2" blued 19-3 here in Maryland for $725, excellent condition but no box, tools or papers. It was maybe a little high, but consistent with what I'd been seeing them actually sell for at the Nation's Gunshow in Chantilly, VA, the ONLY place I'd seen any 2 1/2" 19s in the three years I'd been hunting for one. One thing I've learned is that it's better to pay a little high for the gun that's right there in front of you than continue to search for the hypothetically "right priced" gun that may never come along.

At the rate of appreciation on some of the 19's P&R over paying by $50-$75.00 today will be a smart buy before you get your favorite load worked up on it.
