Default Model number reference and screw count.

As I read about the Model 29 there are 29-2, 29-3,.....

Is the last digit pertaining to the "screw" count?

If yes, are these supposed to be visible screws on the outside or used internally?

I have seen pictures of 29-3s and 29-4s but don't notice any difference in screw count.
