It would appear that they are indeed "cokes." Only sure way to tell is to view the stocks from the rear, and the coke-bottle shape will be evident. A less easy way to tell is to look and see if the checkering is closer to the bottom of the stocks than standard. To my eye, this set meets that criterion. All "cokes" had the diamond center.

I emailed the seller asking him to post a picture from rear focusing on the grips.

The sn says N61195 in one of the pics

The easiest way to tell "Cokes" is the diamond AND the football relief. All cokes have the football relief, but all target stocks had the diamond.

I cant view the link from my big brother watched computer,
but an N serial number gun would not have cokes originally as that style grip was dropped before the change in pre-fixes.
The earliest example of the coke profile (1956) was the most prominant. As the 50's ended and the 60's began the grip grew bigger and the profile less pronounced due to cut backs in production techniques to save money. By 1968 you could barely tell there was a profile at all.

I know those sights, however they are not complete on the gun as is. About 30 years ago I met the inventer at the great western gun show in california and he demo`ed the gun and sight for me. There should be a battery under the grip and the grip should have a built in button on the side that you automaticly depress by picking the gun up. The one that I tried was on a model 19. When you grip the gun the front and the back sights lit up like night sights do now, but much brighter. They probley were the 1st night sight. You had to be a cop for the guy to install them on your gun when I talked to him. I dont see that button on the grip on this gun. Probley the sight is defunct or not used and the original or replacement grips are on the gun.

The stocks are Cokes. Cokes have a larger checkering area (both wider and taller) than any other factory target stocks. There's a write up in Gun Digest on that sight system (I believe in the 1970's).

Cap Cresap used to make those sights. They worked quite well. I was not aware of any LEO-only policy, although since I was in the military when I ordered mine, it may have been something he had no need to mention.

From reading these posts I have come to the conclusion the grips are 'Cokes' but not original to the gun. Right?

DW-Neat gun.

Thanks

Right! They're Cokes (maybe refinished).
The serial number is N 61,195 and Cokes were long gone by then. I don't believe the presentation case is original to the gun either, I think it's from the late 1970's.

Default Fwiw

I bought this gun primarily for the grips (hope I didnt step on anyones toes, but there wasnt a lot of bidding on it).

The gun arrived yesterday and they are some of the most beautiful early cokes I have seen, although they have been lacquered by some moron. They will be going to VM soon.

Anyone have anymore info on Cap Cresap?? The sights kinda intrigue me.

BTW the sellers pics sucked...the gun is a WHOLE lot better than the pics.

Then post some good pics of it. I started to buy it and sell the grips. Or keep them and install them on an earlier era correct gun. Enjoy 29
