Default SW 65 holster.

What would be the best secure holster for a SW 65 4", a holster where my belt would go through rather than clip to my waist band?

Hi, there are several brands and custom holsters. I have a Bianchi belt holster I bought cheap that I could let you have. It would fit your belt and gun. If you want it shoot me your e-mail and I will get it out to you.

Unless the slots are way too big, a slot type holster will be more secure than a clip on holster. Either way though, if the holster is made for a 1.5 inch belt, and you wear a .75 inch belt, you are in for some wobbles...

Within the industry, holster security is rated as Level I, Level II, and Level III, depending upon the types of features incorporated in the design. One can obtain high-security holsters suitable for extreme conditions (certain law enforcement and corrections applications come to mind) from several manufacturers.

Security is only one of the four factors that are important in a holster design. The other factors are comfort, accessibility, and concealability.

Every holster design involves compromises of these four factors, and the user must make decisions as to what level of compromise is suitable for his purposes.

Security (weapon retention) is obviously important. We do not wish to lose our weapons unintentionally, and we do not want to make it too easy for someone to disarm us.

Comfort is very important. If a holster is not comfortable you will not wear it, then should you need your weapon it will not be with you.

Accessibility is important. If you cannot readily access your weapon it will do you no good at a time of need.

Concealability is important for many users, as our society includes a few folks who react negatively (some to the point of panic) when they see that a person is armed. Plainclothes and undercover law enforcement personnel certainly don't wish to be "made", so they keep their weapons well concealed. Many citizens have a legitimate need to be armed for self-defense, but still need to go about their normal lives without undue notice.

So, evaluate your needs based upon your daily life, activities, physique, and wardrobe; peruse the catalogs and websites of holster makers to familiarize yourself with the various products available, and base your selection on what appears to be the best set of compromises to meet your requirements.

Best regards.

The pancake style pioneered by Roy Baker and now offered by almost all good holster builders seems to be the best for me with up to 4 inch barrels. Holds the weapon close to your body, and gives almost instant accessability, and good retention. You should remember to match your belt to your holster. Some of them are made with a 3rd loop/slot so that you can use it crossdraw if you are going to be sitting in a vehicle or at a desk for most of your time. Other than those, the Threepersons or Avenger style will give you the same advantages. The Threepersons style gives up some concealability and security for faster access and presentation, your call, you know what you need.
Just avoid "gimmick holsters" using springs or other gadgets, and shoulder holsters. IMHO a handgun belongs on your belt or in your pocket, the M65 3" needs to be carried on a belt rig.
