A lot of the traffic division in Philly still carried revolvers when I was there... jeez, 10 years ago now. Never mind, that’s only recent in my head.

Still some Sheriff deputies around here carrying revolvers. Very rural and spread out. Plus, I moved into this county in 2009 and haven't heard of an officer involved shooting other than finishing off a cow or something that got on the road at the wrong time and that is usually taken care of before the law ever arrives at the scene as almost everyone has a gun. 6 rounds would about take care of all the real criminals in the county. The guys running around ignoring the finer points of law might take a boxcar load of ammo though. Unless they really bug somebody they just get ignored.

My BIL is the mayor of a little town 37 miles north of here. Their cops don't carry revolvers, but, then there are no cops. If they have a problem they either take care of it themselves or call the sheriff from here and wait for somebody. They don't call very often.

The police blotter is very short and boring. I called the sheriffs office once to report hitting a deer. They acted puzzled as to why I had called about it. Was there a problem? Except for some bent tin and a broken head light, no.

No sign on the departments door about weapons. Went to a NRA hand gun class in the sheriff deportment basement. Almost everyone brought a gun.

I am a LEO and work plain clothes detective. My current qualified duty weapons 1) S&W PC627 with 2 extra moonclips in a shielded holder, model 640 pro, 327 Trr8 and a Custom Springfield 1911 .45 worn in a DeSantis shoulder rig. I wear concealed so I choose whichever 2 weapons will fit based on attire worn. Years back I also felt the pressure to switch but have no intention of doing so. I was raised shooting a smith .357 and a mill spec 1911. I’m 42 so I’m not young or too old for either but I know that handing me a gun model that I’ve been shooting since age 12 and am proficient with in every way makes a whole lot of sense. Fellow officers are so used to me having a wheel gun that they rib me for the semi-auto 1911! As the department range instructor I see a lot of benefits to the glock mentality when teaching the masses and think it’s a great issue gun. I carry The guns that come naturally and can use while also concentrating on the situation. Side note, the 1911 I carry is the old mans mil spec Springfield that I inherited. I had it fully customized and machined to modern spec.

The revolver is still my choice of sidearm for work, and I'm only 44. I carry a 64-2 or SP-101, backed up by a 340M&P. Over the last 21 years I have carried a assortment of other revolvers, including the 19-7, 13-3, 60-7, 36ND, 640ND, 3" GP-100 and Detective Special. I am known as "the revolver guy", and am used to the incredulous reactions when a new guy see's that I still carry a wheel gun. At this point I'm the only revolver armed LEO some of the new guys have ever seen.

I couldn't get my agency to spring for a TRR8, cheap *******s. They're still pissed I won't give up my 686 for Combat Tupperware. I'm retiring in August for the 3rd time, do a little security/PI work when I like.
