As the title states, who has one or the other and how do you like them.
I'm shopping for one at the moment and am curious to the overall
experience with these. I have a 29-2 yes, but am looking to add a designated 44 spl. to the pile.

Any comments?

i have a 3inch m624 hard to keep fed i like to shoot it so much now 44 moulds and luber-sizer dies dillion press etc keep it going

About 15 years ago, I found a nice slightly used 4" Model 24-3 in a local gun shop. I bought it and still have that revolver. It would be one of the very last firearms I would ever consider letting go.

I like the 4" so well I put a set of old "Cokes" on it!

which one?

I have some of each in my collection and I find the 4" barrel length eminently more shootable. The 3" is more carryable and has a pretty strong cult following among both shooters and collectors. Most of the 3" guns were Lew Horton specials from the 1980s. The 3s are easier to find and tend to be more expensive than the 4" guns.

Good luck on your search!

I can honestly say that I have never fired the 3-inch 24 or 624, but I like the 4-inch 624 for being better balanced all around. I can carry the gun concealed with no problems, but if I want to take the gun out to hunt with, it will do the job as long as I do my part.

I'm a sucker for N-frames, N-frame snubbies, 44 Specials....that about covers it!

I prefer 4", and think the N frames look best that way. I would let in a 3 1/2" as the old short M27s broke trail on that.

24-3 Lew Horton

As my title states I am the proud owner of a 24-3 Horton gun.
I got it in a trade from my father who bought it from a security guard
who fortunately did not carry it much.
I also got the holster that was an option with it. I find the gun heavy to carry, but wonderful to shoot.
I saw a holster go for $265.00 I believe on Gunbroker, it was new in the original plastic bag.
I have always thought the price in the Blue Book for the gun was about as far off as could be $395.00 at 100% ? I would take a dozen at that price!
I think they list a Model 10 higher then that.
I also have a 624-0 in 6.5" what a great shooter !

Get a 696 if you can find one. They are an 'L' frame and as a result carry and hide much better than any 'N' frame. A four inch 24/624 will be a much better shooter, but if you want a shooter, find a 6".

Use only modest 44 special rounds (800fps) in the 696 and it will last forever.

I think the 4" is probably more practical, but I still love my 3" Model 24 with the round butt. A big snubby, but still very accurate at moderate distances. And a lot of fun to shoot, too.

Unlike the 44 magnum, to really appreciate the 44 Special, you really need to reload.

There are few choices in factory loads, for the 44 Special, unfortunately.

By reloading, you can use most bullets made for the 44 magnum, and load them to the velocity you want.

Thanks guys. I love the 44 spec. ,been shooting it for years. But you guys got me thinking of one of each now, geesh, thanks alot, good thing I'm single (again).

I am fortunate enough to have a pair of 4" M24-3's with coke bottle target grips. No other N-Frame feels or balances better. This maybe as good as it gets. Of course, one needs a big hat and a cigar to get the full effect. Bob!!!
