You are talking about two completely different guns from a vintage standpoint. While these two models have been made in parallel since about 1978 (when the M629 was invented), the engineering changes do not track in either time, or actual changes. The M29-1 was made for a very short time, in the 1960 timeframe, and are very scarce.
Another way to look at it is this, in 1978, when the M629 was first produced, the M29 was in it's late -2 engineering change, getting ready to change to -3 (which roughly equates to how the M629 was introduced, non-recessed cylinders).
Generally speaking the rarity of -1 guns track to two digit model numbers (with exceptions), one needs to look at what models were actualy being made in the 1960 timeframe. Some two digit guns, like the M58 & M57 were invented later and don't fall into the mystique of the -1 guns.
