Some Nice Spegels or a Set of Esmereldas would be required on that if it were mine..
That's a great looking polish job that's been done on that 640-1 smith41mag..
Congrats!!
Bling Bling!!

After getting a set of Executioner Stag grips for my Detective Special my wife got me a nice surprise for my 640-3 in 357 Magnum that came yesterday. She was buying a few items and used our value club discount,10 dollar off coupon, and a 10 dollar off Value club Visa bonus savings certificate to have them come in @ just above 100 dollars and they look great.BTW fantastic polish job.......Mike Ajax Sambar Stag Grips For J - Frame, Shooting Supplies, Ajax at Sportsman's Guide
You realy do want to get a set of grips that are as gorgeouse as the gun thier on..
BTW did you polish the matte finish off the topstrap?
I'd like to know which method of polishing you did to produce such a smooth looking gun?
Mothers? Flitz? Semichrome? Buffing Wheel? By Hand?
I'd Love to know.. Did you Sand the frame with 1500+ grit sandpaper first? Or Polishing Rushe?
Looks like "Fingerprint Magnet", Keep Microfiber Rag at Hand always.
Here's my favorite J Frame Centennial grips on my 940 & 942/642.. Craig Spegel's Centennial Boot Grips in Cocobolo.
I'd go for the smooth grips for concealed carry but the checkered seem to give a better hold on the harder recoiling Airweight that I have them on..
Check out http://www.lightningarms.com/spegel_boot.htm for some great pics of different grips in other wood types..
I had Craigs direct link on my computer before it crashed & can't seem to find the link now..

Thank You for the pictures of your 640 so nicely polished. On this rainy Sunday in New York I bought Mother's Mag Polish, took off the Stag grips, and gave my 640 a nice polishing. Now there will be 2 640 snubby Bar-B Que guns on the forum......God Bless.......Mike
I am a big fan of Ahrends or Herretts grips. I like the Ahrends finger grip J frame for the appearance and it is a very functional grip as well. However, the Herret's smooth stocks fit my hand better.
I just bought a 640-1 last night and have not even fired it yet. I am anxious to polish it up like you did (and like I did on my 686). From what I can tell, it appears to be an awesome gun and I hope to make it my main carry gun. Thanks for the photos. I may post some one of these days. B
I have a beautiful set of round butt J frame stag grips (Maker Unknown)
that are just perfect for your Bar-B-Que gun!
Can be yours for $150 delivered.
Sorry to say, I no longer have a J frame revolver.

Or how about Executioner elk stags, with glossy black Tyler Tee? (shown on my m.49, also available)...OK, evidently too large a pic to attach, send my your email address if you want to see, i am at eashley(at)maine(dot)rr(dot)com
btw, with those faux ivory Ajax grips you showed, a polished manganese bronze Tyler Tee does very nicely, I have one on my nickel m.36 with Ajax grips, it also adds a nice bit of heft to the grips, they are noticeably heavier than the aluminum tees.

If you don't just add a Tyler adapter to your ivoryish stocks, go for the one grip that just demands to be on the 640-1, Spegel Boots!
These are Macassar Ebony, and while pricey really feel good in the hand with a variety of loads. The 640-1 is one fine handgun, this one with 125 gr. +P JHP's shoots to point of aim up to twenty feet.
The other day on the 25 yard line I shot 1- X, 1-10, 2 - 9's and an 8. The 8 was "Murphy's" fault. He always hangs around to spoil at least one of my shots!
I didn't know you could get a 640 in platinum.....ha ha. Great polishing job! JUst curious as to your technique and how long it took you to complete that project.

I can't take all the credit for the polishing. I did a lot on the start and then J.Oliver took it with him and finished it.
The question is what do you think of them.As I said before I really like the stag grips that one of the members posted and if I didn't have mine I would have bought them for my 640.Keep us informed of the winner
