Default How to search the forum

Is there a quick way to look for a specific gun? Without having to scroll? I'm fairly new. This is only my second time on the Forum. I am looking for a .45lc mountain gun, model 25-13. I saw one for sale but the posting was really old.
thanks

Carlos,

There are three different ways to search on this forum. All available to you from the top navigation bar under the word "Search".

The first box uses Google to search our forum. The second box uses our internal search. The third choice is labeled "Tag Search" which you could use to search for the "Model 25" tag. That would get you all threads relating to Model 25s in general.

When searching on model numbers be sure to sure to put the entire phrase in quotes like "Model 25-13"

Enjoy.

Default Seach funtion does not work here-

The search function does not work, at least for me it doesn't. If I search for threads on a model number, it shows "no matches found", even if there are matches on the front page. If I type in "Model ###" (using the model number), then it hits on any post with the word "model" in it.

I've had the same trouble since the changeover..
The only search that works for me is a Tag found at the bottom of a page on a certain thread..
I thought maybe it was my computer but since a reformat it's still acting the same..
Maybe I'm not doing it right but it worked for years before?

I get exactly the same problem that Neal and Headknocker mention.

Don't know what to tell you.

I search 'model 25-13' (no quotes) in the google search box I get 7 threads, all directly about 25-13's including this thread.

I use the internal search putting quotes around the entire argument "Model 25-13" and I get 11 threads, all directly about that model, or including that model (ie:4" N-frame thread) and this thread.

Searching more generically, I use the google search on 'model 25' no quotes, and I get hundreds of threads on Model 25s. (including this one)

Using the internal search and putting "model 25" in quotes returns 381 results. All results on the first page directly relate to Model 25's.

One of the search choices is "tag Search" that is rock solid way of searching. Choosing the Model 25 tag returns 325 (the max) pages.

This discussion is moot, as there is nothing I can do to change it.

I went in and did a search on a couple of guns including the 25-13 and I didn't get any results either.

Default Something is wrong!

I went to Advance Search, search for "627-0", in titles only, search all open forums, and it came back no matches! I have a 627-0 on the first page of the Guns For Sale!

I tried 627-0 and the same thing. It don't matter what box you click, or unclick no hits!

Same thing here. I've tried all 3 methods and get zilch for results.

Just did a search for model 67 using tag and got nothing. Used the forum (not google) search and got about 500 most of which had nothing to do with model 67. Tried to insert a word document with print screen result but couldn't attach it since it is not a valid file extension. Not sure if it is on my end or not, but not working here...

There is no "model 67" tag. Period. You can't use a tag search on a tag that doesn't exist.

The search will not function on "words" less the 4 characters.

If you search on model 67 it will ignore the 67 and find any post with the word model in it.

The search will look at 25-5 as a numeric expression and ignore it.

If you review my second post in this thread it will clue you in on how best to use the search feature as it exists. READ IT. Follow my examples, you will get the same results I do.

The search is what the search is.

It isn't broken.

It isn't going to change.

Deal with it.

There are now specific instructions and tips for searching stickied in The Office-
SEARCH Instructions

The fact is that we wish the search function was easier.
However, one cannot design a program that will think, and speak, in all the various ways that people can talk about the same thing.
25-2, Mod25-2, Mod 25-2, M25-2, M 25-2, Model 25-2, and Model25-2 are all the same thing to us. To a search engine, they are different words.

The IT Guy did a lot of work in adding the Google search to this forum. It improved the capability. It also takes more energy and bandwidth.
We have also enabled the Boolean feature for all members now. Again, more energy is used. We had intended to reserve that for members that donated to the forum, but decided that it would be better to enhance the search feature for all members.

Forgive The IT Guy if he seemed a bit testy in his posts. He has worked hundreds of hours on this forum, with complaints about shortcomings usually exceeding praise for accomplishments.
