I suspect that the reason you see security types with revolvers is because for most security guards, they have to carry what the company issues and not their personal piece. You got a security company with 300 guys, you need to buy 300 guns. You buy police trade-in revolvers on the cheap and that is how you arm your people.

When I was going to the VA in the late 1990's all the private security guards in the VA carried revolvers. My MOS being what it was (2111-Armorer/Small Arms Repair) and me being, well, me, I examined a few of them rather closely. Quite a number had RHKP markings, indicating they had been picked up by the security company on the surplus market.
