36-6 3 inch collector or shooter, keeper or sleeper????
folks,
traded some grips, and sw items for a blue 36-6 3 inch full underlug gun
i was going to sell it. it has maybe a box of shells through it. but i was trying to find out what the value is of one, and my search success on the forum is not very good. is this one of the small production runs of some of the model 36 guns from smith wesson?
i know the model 60 with sights did not have many made, and i thought i read some posts where there were not many 36-6 blue full lug guns made.but my luck is not good in searches.
so any advice would be appreciated as far as value, number made etc
thanks friends.

Nice find!
You have 1 of 615 guns made in 1989. The production run of this gun was the last time S&W made the Chief's Special Target guns! They are not bought and sold very often so a price is hard to determine. The last one I seen for sale was at $700.

Whatever you do, don't holster it, as that particular finish is somewhat delicate and will wear faster than "normal" bluing.

Don't sell it! Rather rare and a great trail/SD revolver. Perfect for conceal carry also. Have a 36-6 like yours and a 60-10. Great little shooters. The 60 is a kicker even with the ports with full .357's so shoot light .38's through it most of the time.
toroflow1(Ken) is correct on the finish. It is delicate. This pic is older and the turn line is much more visible on it these days. I carry the 60 as I like to have 158 gr. Speer Gold Dot .357's in it for 2 legged varmits.
Next to a .22 these little buggers are great for training your wives, GF's and kids on with light loads. My daugters love shooting these babies, especially the 60. The Uncle Mikes are great at absorbing recoil and give you a natural sight picture thanks to their full coverage backstrap. When I pass they each get one. My oldest detective daughter gets first choice. I told her to take the 36 though it's already in my will that thats the one she receives.

Bought mine new in the late '80s. It's a perfect trail revolver and my wife thinks it's the cat's meow. Rarity or not, it's a fantastic shooter and a very neat little J-frame.

I did not realize these existed, that is why I jumped on the 631 4 inch revolver train!! I don't own a j frame 38 (yet) but that is the one I would look for. I love the adjustable sight with that barrel length!

Sportsterguy, thanks for posting the pictures. Was the 60-10 a rare issue as well?

I've got one of those little buggers.
Its a great little shooter.
With the wood grips it looks like a miniature 586.

PEYTON, let me know when you get your tool kit.. the36-6 looks new. i dont even know if it was fired. i have read with great interest how guys like the 36-6 for trail guns, loaded with +p, a very stout load. and how thier wives love them because the shoot powder puff 38 cal for target.
but from what i have learned, women and guys with small hands love the gun, as the round butt fits the small hand perfect.it really is a nice sweet gun. and the documented low numbers of production makes it a winner in that dept.also.guys, i will be selling this, after i get pics in a couple days, and i will post here first.. but i am like you guys, its so darn hard getting rid of a nice ,low number production gun that fills a lot of needs.shoot, it would be a great nightstand gun for a wife or gf too.
i have a 649 -3 357, otherwise this baby doll would not even be considered for sale

It's a favorite, and one of the most accurate 38 I've owned. Prices I have seen don't seem to reflect the scarcity of this little gem. I'd hang on to it as I think the value will grow.

If you are talking about the same one I am thinking about (that was on the S&W classifieds within the last year) it did not sell at that price. While they are nice little guns, not many J frames will sell for $700, including that one. I have owned two of the SS versions, the 60-4, and I agree they are excellent kit guns. But if you try to sell it for $700 without box, papers, etc., I think you will be disappointed. But it is a great find, you are fortunate indeed!

Thanks peyton. I love the little buggers! I don't really know how rare the 60 is. Haven't seen many of them and it is factory ported. Got that info from a fellow member.
Can any of you experts help out on the 60-10?
Thanks,
Roger

I picked up one of these little jewels at the Fort Worth gun show today.Very good shape except for a little scuff in the bluing on one side of the barrel. It also has Hogue rubber grips.

The 36-6 is a limited production. I'd make it a KEEPER!
Here's mine with a TH/TT Model 18-3 that was hanging around...

Nice gun- Went to the safe to find that mine was a 36-6 in the box, bought it about 4 yrs ago. I have never fired it but I am pretty sure the previous owner did. I bought it to carry, then bought a 638 that shoots very well. I may just get photos and sell it since I prob never will shoot it and the wife carries a custom officers 45 ACP. Be Safe,
