Default +P Ammo in an early M36

I recently obtained from an Estate, a 1981 vintage S&W M36 in what I believe to be unfired condition. I have since fired it with standard .38spl Ammo. I have a supply of Federal Nyclad +P Rounds that I would like to use as Carry Ammo. Would firing the +P Rounds on a limited basis, harm this Revolver?. TNX

There is no reason to not shoot SAAMI +P .38 Special ammunition in a Model 60, of any age, or a Model 36 for that matter. Yes, the higher pressure ammunition will cause slightly accelerated wear compared to standard pressure ammunition, but the same can be said for standard loads compared to mid-range wad-cutter loads! It absolutely will not cause catastrophic failure of the revolver!

would practice with .38 spl. and carry the +p stuff if you need to. just for recoil sake i don't use +p in any of my J frames. 158 gr. Hornady XTP for me. it's in all my J's.

There is only one question in the op's thread.
I answered it in correct English to be read "It is ok to shoot plus p's in this gun."
"Absolutely not" would be poor English as a response that he not shoot plus p's in the gun.
I thought a short, concise, direct answer to the question would be the best course to an over-asked question, but apparently I was wrong in this case.

I have a 36 No Dash and I have fired several hundred rounds of +P through it. At one range outing I fired about 75 +P's through it.

It's still fine.

I've no concerns about today's "mighty +P's" through a S&W steel framed revolver, even if used for practice as well as carry.

I'm pretty sure that today's +p is not the +p of old. I agree with the statement of running some +p through the revolver, but I would practice with standard pressure. Why spend the $ to practice with +p. BTW, the 36 is a great little revolver. Enjoy.

To answer your question: Nope.

I've judiciously fired more than my fair share of +P ammo in my own 1971 Chief's Special with no ill effects to date.

As many others before me have said: If you can afford to wear out a J-frame with +P ammo, you're probably also able to just as easily afford a replacement.

I don't know about +P in a M36, but I'm pretty sure you can't put too much water in a nuclear reactor.

If there were a lifetime achievement award for the subject most in need of a sticky, this would win one...constantly.
