Does anyone have experience with the 627 eight shot 4 inch barrel SKU # 163357. It looks like a good shooter and would make a nice project gun.

I have a 4 inch Pro Series, 627 8 shot. I don't know if thats what your referring to or the standard 8 shot 627. I love the Pro series model, it's just awsome. The trigger is very good from the factory and it's an easy gun to shoot quick and accurately. I also like the moon clip cylinder on the Pro. I don't know if the regular 627 is cut for moon clips or not. I do know there aren't any functional speed loaders for these 8 shooters yet, so moon clips are the quick reload option. Hope this helps.

The regular production 627 offers a little more muzzle weight over the slab-sided Pro Series 627, but isn't cut for the moonclips. I've had both and both had great triggers.

Thanks guys… did not think of the moon clips and the interchangeable front sight is a real plus. I always change the front sight, put on new wood then send it off to the factory for action work anyway. The 627 Pro looks like a best buy.

The slab sided barrel and tapered lug of a 627 Pro (41.2 oz) pare a whole 0.8 oz off the regular 4" 627 (42.0 oz). The 627 Pro, SKU # 178014, has an MSRP that is $56 over the production 4"-er the OP mentioned - and a bargain with it's precision barrel & crown, spring loaded front sight for fast tool-less changes, moonclip ready & eased charge holes, and a modicum of a trigger job. Below is mine along with my 5" h-l 686+ for comparison.



My 5" JM PC627 V-Comp and the 5" h-l 686+ pictured above have cobwebs these days. The 4" 627 has been my favorite since it came home with me 5/08. It soon got the HiViz front sight and Ahrends 'Retro Targets' in cocobolo. It rivals my 4" 617 for staying nasty from so much shooting!

PS Ranch Products has the moonclips at $50/50 or $75/100 shipped. Starline .357M brass nearly jumps into the notches.

Mine is a PC 627 5". I sometimes wish it were 4".

Oh boy… I have the 5 inch 686 short lug and shoot the heck out of it. And we are on the same page with 617 nothing like an afternoon with that great revolver. You really have my attention now. Better than that 5 inch 686 is going some. Thanks

Is the Pro m. 627 4" 8-round .357 mag. an L-frame or N-frame?

AS to your question, you would be better off in the future posting a new thread instead of resurrecting a 6 1/2 year old one and asking about a pistol model not like the one in the original post.

Now to answer your question, the 627 Pro is an N frame revolver, not an L frame. They do make a 7 shot L frame though; the 686+ guns. I have the 627 Pro myself and it pretty much feels just like my 6 shot model 27s I own too. And it is a real hoot to shoot and having 8 rounds of 357 badness is really nice. If you like N frames, I highly recommend the 627 Pro.
