Default Tight Cylinder

It's been over two years since I shot my 340pd and 29 Mountain gun. Both were cleaned before storing. Today, I find the cylinders on both guns won't revolve freely. Pulling the trigger on the 29 is nearly impossible. The cylinders on both are almost impossible to rotate with the rod by hand. What's the fix? Thanks in advance.

Your going to have to take them apart and clean and oil the parts.
I have instructions on removing the yoke and cylinder assembly in the faq's sticky in the smithing section.
I'd use Breakfree and it won't happen again. Did you use WD40 on your guns before you put it away?

It probably is the oil going bad ,some oils turn into an almost varnish like gum with age. Your best bet is to clean out the old oil and get a better millspec oil that will not break down.

Thanks for the advice. I've always used Hoppe's Elite products, but will use Breakfree in the future. Never used WD-40 on anything except cars.

I have been using Rem-oil for a long time without any problem what so ever. It doesn't congeal, or turn into a gummy mess, and is dsesigned for gun use. Don't over oil the yoke tube either. Too much of a good thing is not.

Dick Tracy;
You might want to take a look at this article about gun oils. It is illuminating, to say the least:
