I am sure there are other markings on the gun. If its a 686 with a non glare finish an round butt grips. Its a cousin to CS-1 made for the european market. Should have a marking on the barrel . The word begining woith a leter W.

[lang=nl]Thanx for the answer. Yes it has a matte finish. It has a round butt and there is a marking on it that says "CS-3" not 1(?). What would be the main difference between the CS-1 or 3?[/lang]

If i'm not mistaken, they made a change to the extractor, and changed the sight blade from 1/10 inch width (CS-1) to 1/8 (CS-3).

Hope this helps.

Also, do a search here for "686cs1".

Look the gun over. ( i knew it was marked CS-3). Open up the cylinder. Look for markings where the bullets go. Also , on the barrel. There should be a word starting with a W.

I think the W means, "Wischo", if I spelled that right. It's a big German gun importer.

You've got a definate KEEPER! Borrowed this info from SmithNut.

"After the CS-1 production run (both for Customs Service and over-run guns shipped to US distribution), the factory left this model in the "line" for future law enforcement orders. Think of the CS-3 as simply the same model as the CS-1 but a later engineering change. The basic CS-1 features are there - bead blast finish, round butt gripframe on both 3" and 4" models, and a pinned in front sight. The CS-3 also has the later - CNC machined - ejector star that appears to be a square cut (due to the CNC machining), as well - the front sight is wider - 1/8" instead of the CS-1 model's 1/10" wide blade.
Many CS-3 guns were shipped into US distribution, but the majority that I've seen were actually shipped to S&W's German distributor - Wischo - and marked on the sideplate as ".357 Security Special". These guns were 3" guns. They were apparently slow sellers and many were returned by Wischo and released into US distribution".

I have the 3" version that I just acquired and shot it yesterday. It's a fantastic revolver with a great trigger and action. Have it and my CS-1. They are both shooting machines! Great triggers and the perfect SD revolver IMO. Milk jugs are not safe at 100 yards with these revolvers if you do your part.

Congrats on a great S&W. DON"T SELL IT! EVER!

I'm speaking from the vast knowledge learned by attending and receiving my masters degree from DMU (Dumb Move University) .

I'm not proud that it took me 30+ years to receive this honor.

CS-3

CS-1

I'm waiting till after Christmas to post new pics of the revolvers with their new Ahrends and TT Gunleather holster.

[lang=nl]Wow mate thanx for your info on the gun. It's exactly the one you discribe and the one you posted pics off. Great to hear the history of this particular gun. The guy in the shop doesn't know what he sells lol. I only payed 275 euro for the 4 inch version. I guess thats a giveaway. What would you guys pay for such a gun?

Thanx again for all the peeps that take the effort to reply. It's appreciated! [/lang]

Here ya be. Look familiar my fellow S&W fan? What's 275 Euros equate to the devalued dollar? Need to know as we'll probably be using the Euro as our new currency within 10 years thanks to the "Change" man and his cronies.

I wouldn't sell either of mine for less than 1K. Might be overpriced but I think they'll be worth it in a few years and they are shooting machines. Mine loved 158 gr. Speer Gold Dots. The effects on hitting a gallon milk jug filled with water and red food coloring at 50 yards was impressive!

Yup looks like the bussiness to me ; same markings here. I'm shooting 158 gr. Magtech. I calculated it for you. 275 euro is
405,82 dollar. The guy who sold it to me has some more 3 inch CS-1 models for about the same price. He really doesn't know what he is selling hehe.

Here is one I ripped from his site. Its an CS-1 3" allright. (Not mine btw.)

I'd love to have a 6 shot 3 inch 686. At US $405, that's a steal.
