I was wondering how many m 625-10s in 45acp were produced.

There were two versions; all clear cote and one with a black frame

I know the 625-11 2" 45 colt only had 103 produced.

But the 3rd edition doesn't say how many -10s were made in clear cote and black frame.

I know it's a question about a limited performance center gun, but if anyone knows, someone here will.

Thanks
Dave

I read somewhere back when they were available that the production was 250 or so, and then I saw another number of just over 300.

The answer: "Not many."

There are even less in circulation and collections now that the guns are developing cracks in the frame under the barrel boss. S&W is not replacing the frames and is simply giving owners of cracked 625-10 45ACP revolvers a choice of replacement revolvers.

IMO, the 625-10 is a collector piece, not a shooter. I had one for about six months, fired less than a box of factory 45 ACP FMJ through it, and after only 10 or 12 shots it stung my hand so bad that I had to wear gloves or quit shooting. I am not recoil sensitive, and somewhat pain tolerant, but this pain was a shooting "electrical" sting of assaulted nerves. After 12 rds, I was willing to divulge more than name, rank, and service number.

I sold it, and haven't looked back.

I've retired mine as a collector's piece as well. Nice idea, but I called mine the bruiser becuase of the pain that Noah described above. It actually caused me to develop a flinch which took me several hundred rounds of 38 to get out of my system. I'm holding on to mine just because it's unique and I don't need the money for the time being . . .

Everybody likes something different. I shoot my -10 regularly, and carry it often. Factory hardball is miserable in the thing, and performs poorly too, but it can be fun, and do the job, with the right handloads. Mine started life with the clearcote finish, but started to look like junk with some use. Just doesn't hold up. S&W refinished the frame in black, which lasts and lasts and lasts.....

First, thanks for all the replies.

colt_saa, 300 on clear and 200 black. Thanks for that info.

I guess I'm in the minority in the sense that I don't feel it's a handful to shoot at all. Of course I mean that in a comparitive sense to say a j frame .357 or even a k frame .357 with 125 grainers.

Yes the recoil is stout with the boot grips and 230gr load. I'm spoiled by shooting it with the rubber grips and a PMC 200 gr SWC. Sweet load.

I can't even imagine an ultralite 12 oz .357....ouch.

Oh, Pinky, nice gun. I remember seeing it before. You didn't get the cylinder release in black as I recall (but I'm getting senile).

Thanks again
Dave

Right on the thumb latch. I got a black one for it but decided I liked the original one better. These guns have a lot of appeal. A crowd of guys at the range would love to give it a new home. It's generally accepted that frame cracking is due to barrel overtorque, not use. Luck of the draw, I guess. The sub-12oz guns really aren't bad either, with the right loads. Mine is 125gr at 1000fps and I shoot 50rds a week through the 340PD or 360PD. Puts a grin on my face, on the rare occasions when I hit the target, anyway.

Personally, I thought the 625-10 was so ugly it was attractive.

With such low production numbers, what do you think a new in box
"clear coat" would go for today. I have a chance of getting one this weekend.

NIB seems to go for $1K or so. That's what I paid for mine, from a dealer. The gun should come in an aluminum PC case.

The one I'm looking at is priced at $975 but the lady at the gun store showed me a PC soft case, does anyone know it it came with both the soft case and the hard Performance Center case?

The SCSW says the black version shipped in the PC rug, the silver gun in the aluminum case. I guess you never really know with S&W, though.
