WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MODEL 65 & 66?
just bought a 64-4 from J&G, & put a 66 on layaway as well as a 4043.
however, im thinking about looking for a Model 65 also to continue my revolver collection.
is the 65 duplication or a scenario worth persuing?

No 88 I am aware of. The 66 has adjustable sights and the 65 does not. The 68 is same as the 66, but 38 special only.

It's hard to say what is/isn't "worthwhile" without knowing your intended purpose for the guns and their respective features. The 66 will differ over the J&G 64 in that it will be adjustable sighted, come in 357 mag vs 38 special and have the SA/DA action. Of course barrel length may differ as well.

I carried both on duty
I carried both a 65 and a 66 over time. I started with a 4 inch 19 (the carbon steel version and original) and then moved up to a 65 when they came out. Still later, a girl firiend who became my wife bought me a six inch 66 which became one of my top five all time favorites. (66, 3913, 6906, 686 6 inch and the 1911 .45)
For potential combat as a cop, it's hard to beat a model 65. Very fast to find the sights and fire. Out to fifteen yards or so, i had no trouble keeping evrything in the 10 ring. Shooting further though, it was hard to beat the 66. Of course, mine was a six inch so shots out to 50 yards were still fairly easy, especially with the hotter loads.

i'm going to try to start with one each; 36, 60, 64, 65, 66, 681/686 etc. & go from there.
thanx

It seems to me you are missing the M-67. If you get the 64 and 65 (.38 spl and .357mag with fixed sights) you will also need the 66 and 67 (.38 spl and .357mag with adjustable sights).
There are just endless possibilities when starting a collection.

Lets not forget all the blued models: mod 65 = 13 (in blue), 64 = 10, 66 = 19, 67 = 15, 68 = 14.... And both 64 & 10 were available in standard barrel (aka pencil barrel) and heavy barrel; you're gonna need a bigger safe.

I also carried a model 66 and a model 65 as a police officer. As you probably know both are stainless steel,K frame, and are .357 magnum caliber, both will handle .38 special as well. The 65 has fixed sights and a heavy barrel. The 66 has adjustable sights, and a shroud over the ejector rod. I prefered the 66 hands down for balance, fast sight acqusition, and astetics for looks. Also,I shot much more accurate with the 66. I do have both of them, and they will go to my grandson. Ed
