Unfluted Cyl
First test of photo 629 and 60 with Unfluted cyl. Not the best photos, but my first try. Model 629-6 with night sights and Model 60-4 (only one I have seen with unfluted cyl.) Chop

Great job on both counts. Very nice guns, I only have one like that and I would love a "L" frame like that.

I have a 686-8 5" Unfluted cylinder I picked today. Maybe I can do picture next week if I live through a grandson about to cut four molars along with infection in both ears.

No worries, he's my baby boy and spoiled rotten at 18 months.
But then one day he will be a teenager and I will probably be in the nursing home drooling like he is now.
zilmo is that a 5" L or N frame?
The shinny non MIM trigger and hammer look real good on that pretty thing.

Brucev,
It is a 627-0 N frame in .357. I have posted mine as well. The biggest difference is that I have my combat grips like Zolmo has on his locked up in my safe and am using a set of Ahrends round to square butt finger grips on mine. A very sweet shooting gun whether you are shooting .357s though it or .38SPCLS that feel like shooting a .22.
I hope this helps.

This is a 686 with a Medusa cylinder. It shoots more than 20 different calibers in the .355 - .358 bullet range including rimmed and rimless rounds.

Cool. It has been many, many years since I looked much at handguns. I've had a 18 and 28 which did everything I needed to do with a revolver. But recently I saw now one but two 625's in a local gunshop... bought the 625-2 and have been simply amazed at how it shoots. Now I find myself coming here at least daily to read about S&W revolvers... and autos. It looks like I'm going to have to educate myself about post 1980 S&W's. Thanks for the reply. Sincerely. brucev.

Unfluted N frames
Great looking guns guys! I did not realize I had 4 N frames with unfluted cylinders.
The 3" 29-4 , A 6" nickel 29-3 that I installed a new blue unfluted cylinder on for my first pinto. My 627-0 , and a 625-6 mountain gun that I also installed an unfluted cylinder on.

OK, my very first ? here.
Does the unfluted cylinder on all the different calibers make it the "Classic Hunter" model?
I have the 629 and 686 with the UF cylinder that I bought back in the late 80's. Have shot the 629 many, many times and have bagged a cow elk with it. The 686 has maybe 200 rounds through it as I am kind of attached to my GP100. A great shooter and smooth as silk right out of the box but it has pretty much been a safe queen. I like the look of the UF cylinders and would liked to have collected each of the calibers. Oh, well.
Beautiful pics here, by the way, I won't embarass myself with my photog skills just yet!

S&W hasn't made a whole lot of unfluted cylinder guns, but I think the vast majority have been N frame guns and not the 686 for what ever reason. So don't let it get away from you too cheap if you ever sell the gun.

I don't have a picture handy but I have an unfluted Model 60 Leonardo DaVinci model. It was a Talo special and carried a serial number of LDVxxx. It was a series of 500 guns but they were widely available for a while (probably because of the Hillary Hole).

I have a couple I can show.
This 657-4 is as tight as any S&W I've ever owned. I am looking forward to getting to the range after deer season.
The scoped 657-4 is a known tack-driver. At 100 yards it's 3" (or less) grouping out of a 7.5" barrel (off a good rest). I'm hoping to take a deer this month with this gun.
This Model 29-4 has a 5" tube. I have not shot it much as I just picked it up last month. I hope to shoot this one with several different load this winter. Got it at Cabela's.
This M25-7 is a great shooter. I take it to the range pretty regularly.
No one said they had to be a S&W...
How about a U.S. Arms Corp. "Abilene"...I got this a couple weeks ago and I can tell you it is a very accurate gun. It's .44 Mag and can handle any Ruger load. It has an unusual barrel length...8.5 inches.
This is my wife's Ruger Super Blackhawk. It has a 7.5 inch tube and has killed a number of deer.
I like the unfluted cylinders as much as the next guy!!
Bob

[QUOTE=Mico1;1183292]My new toy...686-M
This is the first 6" 686 with silhoette sights and a unfluted cylinder that I have seen. I have one that I bought new in 1996, but it has a fluted cylinder. Can you tell us more about the "-M" ?
