Default E frames???

Was on Smith website last night under holsters and with the J frames an E frame is listed. Is this the longer .357 J frame model? Just never seen listed an "E frame size"

Someone at the factory is probably having some fun.
The factory uses a different internal designation for the Stainless and Carbon frames for all frame sizes, it's just that for years we've just seen the J/K/L/N designations.
Here's the differences:

J - Carbon and E - Stainless Small frame
K - Carbon and F - Stainless Medium frame
L - Carbon and H - Stainless Medium frame (med/lg)
N - Carbon and G - Stainless Large frame

The two designations only differentiate the frame material, the sizes are identical (for example J/E).

I'm going from memory, so if I've mixed up the stainless versions above someone can fix them.

Enjoy

Yes current versions are variations of the E frame:
a new 649 is an EMagnumS frame, a 638 is an EMagnumAS frame.

Model 49 Bodyguard is a JS frame: carbon steel, shrouded hammer
Model 649 Bodyguard is an ES frame: stainless, shrouded

Model 38 Bodyguard is a JAS frame: steel bar/cyl/yoke, alloy, shrouded
Model 638 Bodyguard is an EAS frame: stainless bar/cyl/yoke, alloy, shrouded

By 1997 all J frames were JMagnum and all E frames were EMagnum

All of the above of course would use the same size holster but the 649 has a 1/4" longer barrel.

Oh, sorry CAJUNLAWYER.

You mean the new BODYGUARD(R) 38.
I think it's the M frame for Mattel, (smile).

I believe it's an EMagnumPAC: polymer, alloy, concealed hammer.

Ah, no. The stretched "magnum" frame will NOT fit in some holsters made for the older (pre-95) frames; I have two kydex and one plastic holster for the latter that my 360PD will not fit.

And it isn't because of the longer barrel- the 360PD doesn't have the longer barrel- its because of the frame geometry.

No problem with my leather holsters; they can me "made" to fit, although the longer, heavuier barrel could be a problem in some cases.

.

Thanks, I stand corrected. I'm stuck in the old leather holster world.

Which, in reality, means you have three plastic holsters. Kydex is simply a more expensive, "high-tech" plastic.

Personally, I'm sticking with leather.
