Default Model 27 --50TH. Anniversary ?

I've located a 50th. Anniversary 5" Model 27 that is new in the box with all the paperwork and documentation with one exception. The guy sold the presentation box on e-bay for $42.00 and can't figure out why no one wants to buy his gun.

I really want a 5" model 27 but is this a good way to go or not ? I shoot everything I own so I'm not sure what this would do to it's value. Like I said--it's never been fired other than factory.

Can anyone give me an idea as to what would be a fair price to offer for it ?

Thanks for your help.

Steve

Default 27-3

This platform variation was used for a number of commemoratives, including the 50th Anniversary of the .357. The commemorative models do not command much of a premium, if any, in today's market. But the gun is still a five-inch model 27 and as such is worth at least the going rate for a non-commemorative. I would say anything south of $600 is a good deal for a mint 27 and $650 even without the case a fair deal.

I saw one a few months ago for $1000, in the presentation case, like new. Without the box, your example is just a 5" model 27 now.

Thanks for your help. That's pretty much what I thought about the price--wasn't aware they weren't really sought after though. We'll see what happens.

I bought one unfired in box and traded back to the same dealer still unfired for around that $600 mark. He sold it on his web site for a bit of a premium later.
Same thing with a S&W 125th Anniversary Model 25 in 45LC.

I bought them both from him some years ago thinking they'd increase in value as they did but no more than other N frames unless you find a buyer who really wants one. I buy guns I'll shoot anymore even if little and mostly tucked away in the safe.
