Police trade in choices
My local shop got in some police trade-ins recently. I've got some money coming back in taxes this year so, of course, I'm drooling over a new toy.
They got in some model 19's. Typical 4 inch barrel, adj. sights, black rubber grips, good condition, carried more then shot. They also got in a model 65. It is P&R, and fixed sights, but lots of scratches on the frame. Lock up is good, but it looks like it's been tossed around alot.
All are priced under $400, the lowest is $369,if I remember right.
If you were picking, which you see as the better gun?

Model 19! I am NOT a fixed sight fan. The 19 is a great gun within its design limits.

To me it would depend upon whether or not I was going to carry a lot.
Stainless is much better under adverse conditions than blue.
Personally, I'd go for a nice 19 since I have a nice 65, but YMMV.
The prices are pretty good. If I had the cash I might get one of each.

If I was going to carry I would choose the 65. Otherwise, I'd choose the 19.

65 if it's a 3", otherwise go with the 19.
Make sure to remove the grips if they are rubber to check for rust underneath...

At that price I'd go for both but if it had to be one I go for the 65. I already have a few 19's and no 65's. -good luck-

The 19. Not a fan of fixed sights. On a police trade in, you aren't going to be all that concerned about the finish anyway. Folks carried guns for a long time prior to the advent of stainless firearms. Of course, I'd rather have a 66 since I'm lazy, but since it isn't a choice the 19 wins.

Stainless...is easy to make look new again!!
I got a 65...but would still grab the 65!! if it were the 3" model I would be in heaven!!! you can polish the 65 right up or bead blast...I like the polished stainless...but I would probably grab one of each if it was possible! here is my 65.

I would go with the 65. But I have a reason. I have a 66 and this would been a good mate. No question a model 19 is cool but something about the 65 that appeals to me.
Good luck,

I would take the P&R 65 and get some Mother's Mag polish, shine it up, and leave it to my kids when I die......if I couldn't take it with me....

I appreciate the comments. I wish I could just get both. I'm saving for my 25th anniversary, which is in 2 months. Maybe I could convince her the stainless 65 is really silver-----!

problem solved...
Just convince your wife that a good used 357 would be a wonderful gift! (for each other) Give her the 19, she gives you the 65... both will last 25 more years,easy...
